Language problem on Steam

I can only choose between English and Polish. But I would like to play the game in German, which is a language that should be available. How can I switch to German?

Did you try to change to german in Steam settings of CK2 and change then in-game to german ?
I refer to Ck2 - properties - language first.

You can change the settings.txt file in your Documents folder, to either german, or to make the game ask you what language you want to use the next time you use it

What you have

gui=

language=l_english
has_set_language=yes
}

To play in German

gui=
{
language=l_german
has_set_language=yes
}

To make the game ask you what language you want

gui=
{
language=l_english
has_set_language=no
}

I just realised he was apparently talking about Steams' CK2 Language tab and not the language
selection in CK2 game options, as i originaly thought..*sigh*

In short:
You should have no problem to choose german through in-game options.
Only requires a restart afterwards.
No need to edit settings.txt manually.

I originally assumed you had the old polish version, which only had english and polish to choose from in-game.

This didn't work. Actually, in thge settings.txt it showed German already, yet the game is in English.

Just then, I even changed to Polish on Steam, and it's still in English....

Is there anything else I can try? Is this a common issue?

If you have the Cenega edition of the game, so far as I know only English and Polish are available.

I bought the original game from Gamersgate in 2013 or 2014, all expansions from Steam. I have no idea what the Cenega edition is. There was no indication that it would be a edition limited to only 2 languages. How can I switch to German, please?

Exactly as i said in my last post, you should be perfectly fine to select german as language in game options and then restart,
assuming neither your Steam interface nor CK2s' (Steam) properties language is in polish.

Nothing you wrote tells me that you actualy tried to change language in game options.
Main menu - Options (bottom left) - Game

Maybe you accidently downloaded polish localisation files, so try to "Verify Integrity of Game Files" in
Steam - Library - Crusader KIngs 2 (right click) - Properties - Local Files.

This also assuming that you start the unmodded vanilla game and not with a mod loaded like Game of Thrones or a similar overhaul mod,
which likely has no german localisation files in the first place.

Thanks again. I am playing vanilla. I looked into the game options, but either I overlooked the language option or it was not there. IIRC, my game options window was smaller with less lines. I should check again tonight.

Btw: How do you rotate the map like that?

It's there.
If you can't change it, then i can only imagine it to be restricted somehow by some security program
on your comp or restricted access settings, but then you'd have to talk to AndrewT again.

Assuming your game was updated by Steam and you are thus on patch 2.7.2, as long as you didn't roll
back to a far older version through Betas, then it should look the same.

Btw: How do you rotate the map like that?

You don't. It happens automatically when you select Options.

. Ofc, the option was there and everything is working fine now. Guess, I focussed only on the limited language options in the Steam menu.
