As of last night, I cannot play CK2, as the launcher will not open. When I press the play button in Steam, a box pops up saying the game is preparing to launch, it says "running" next to CK2 in the list of games, and finally it changes to "syncing" and goes back to normal without the launcher showing up. When I try to manually open the executable, I get the loading circle next to the mouse and the title bar turns white for a second, but then nothing happens.
I've already tried deleting my CK2 folder, reinstalling, restarting my computer, verifying the integrity of the game files, reinstalling DirectX and the C++ redistributables, running as administrator, using compatibility mode, using an older version of the game, and deleting the appcache folder. None of these have helped at all.
There are also 3 batch files in the game's Steam folder called "00_GET CK EXE.bat", "00_GET LT EXE.bat", and "00_GET RK EXE.bat". I don't know if they've always been there or not, but when I opened them, they all gave me error messages and said "the network path was not found".
I'm pretty sure the issue isn't my computer because until last night, I didn't have any problems playing it, much less getting the launcher to open. Additionally, I don't use mods and my antivirus program isn't flagging the game as a threat. At this point, I have no idea what to do; I looked up my problem and while I found a few threads about it here, on Reddit, and on the CK2 community on Steam, none of the solutions helped.

The game itself didn't change yesterday either! But some thing must have or it would work still. Perhaps a Windows, driver or antivirus app update?

Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK2
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK2 AND Documents/Paradox/CK2 folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add ck2game.exe to the exceptions list/whitelist of your antivirus app
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam CK2 or Documents CK2 locations, before installing again.

If that does not help:

What antivirus app(s) do you use?

DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/CK2/settings.txt.
From your Documents/Paradox/CK2/logs/ folder, attach system.log .

I've done all of these steps multiple times, but for some reason it worked this time. Thanks for the help!

No doubt there were some files left over in the Steam-CK2 or Documents-CK2 folder, that got deleted this time.

All the best!

I have tried this solution along with many, but it didn't help.
In that case you do not have the exact same issue. Please start your own ne wthread, with problem history and informational files as mentioned above. Thanks.
