"Launching the game failed" Launcher Help

Recently bought a new laptop that actually runs this game better than my old desktop, but ive only actually gotten it to run a few times. The launcher states "launching the game failed" and I have no idea where even to start on fixing this. Any ideas?

If the launcher now says 2020.8 the problem is likely the game or Windows, not the launcher.


DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please send in the game log C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\Introversion\Prison Architect\debug.txt

To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

That's part of Visual C++ 2015/17/19

Please go to https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2977003/the-latest-supported-visual-c-downloads
and run the x86 and x64 installers there. Let me know what each does,any problem or error.

The next problem is this machine only has 4gb of installed memory, and the published minimum requirement is 6gb. Any chance of adding more? At least exit every other app you can before starting this game.

And finally the Intel video driver is from 2014; see if you can get an updated one from the ASUSTeK support site or Intel themselves

Note that both the CPU and Intel video system are also below the published minimum requirements, but there's probably nothing you can do about them on this machine.

I went and ran both installers without error, and then tested the game and it works perfectly. Thank you
