Hi rhony2,

I have not noticed this where can it be found in the game?.

Thanks, Ice:cool:

It's in the save files - the ones with the .eug extension. If you look at the historical leader attributes, they list movement, fires, shock, siege, and then special. I don't know if this is true for ALL, since I haven't looked at all leaders, but it seems that the special value matches the movement value.

Of course, one could try the obvious of editing the savegame to eg change a 6 to a 0 and see what happens.
The first thing I would look at is what happens to attrition. Then I would ... ehm donno actually :)
Keep looking for stuff ?
Of course I would check my next savegame too, to see that the value don't just get changed back into 6 again =)

Wow, neither you nor BiB know what this is? Can you ask Paradox?

Anyway I spent a little more time looking through my savefiles.

Not all leaders have identical movement and special values although most do. THe exceptions I have found (and I haven't looked at all countries yet, and I'll admit I went through it in a hurry):

France: La Fayette, general, move 4, special 1
Austria: Sachsen, general, move 4, special 1
Prinz Eugen, general, move 5, special 1
SPain: Galvez, general, move 4, special 1 *
Pol-L: Poniatowksi, general, move 3, special 1

* THere were 2 Galvez generals, identical stats and birth/death dates, but different ID numbers - huh?

Also, monarchs in the historical monarch tables had NO special values (not zero, special value does not exist after movement in historical monarch tables). However, if they appear as a unit leader, they DO have a special value - and it matches their movement.

I always thought that it was about changing (err?) loyalty of leader
FE Poniatowski "may be swedish"

I really didn't checked others but

La Fayette "may be USA" or so

I'm going to stick this post to the top in the hope that more people will see this and hopefully spend some time to check it out. Would be nice if we could crack this thing. Might turn out to be something very usefull for scenario creation for instance.

Is there perhaps a scale of special values listed in the files somewhere, where a SV of 1 might mean -10% attrition and long life. if you know what I mean. To correspond with the type of circumstances the leader faced historically.

Just a guess, I'll do more looking tonight.

Well, I don't think it has anything to do with attrition. I changed a conquistador with 6 movement and 6 special to 1 special. THen I looked at his attrition bonus - it was still 24. Maybe this is a random value? Or maybe it was something the designers originally were going to use, but then decided not to?

Special Leader Rating

Well, this intrigued me - anything that neither BiB nor Husziks knows has got to be worth looking into :) - so I cranked up EU Leaders by EU Province (plug ;)). What I found is that most of the specials are just as Maur13 suggested - leaders that may serve for more than one country. But some are listed that they may also be admirals: for example, Buckingham, Monck, & Norfolk for England. Fairfax & Cromwell are noted as "only if Civil War in England", while Marlborough is noted as "not impetuous"! All of the leaders that had a special had a rating of 1 in it. My bet is that this is something that is not implemented in the game.

If all the 'specials' have a value of 1, it seems more likely that it's simply a flag value for use in a programming conditional. As in IF SPECIAL THEN.... So that if the SPECIAL variable is anything other than zero, the algorithm branches.

Also possible if they do not all have '1'. could be used for switch/case or several ifs.

Leader "Special Ability"

The leaders listed by rhony2 all had some unique characteristic in the original EU boardgame. Most (Sachsen, Prinz Eugene, Lafayette, Monck, Rupert, etc.) were dual-nature leaders; they could enter play for more than one nation (Sachsen for FRA-AUS-SAC, Eugene for FRA-AUS-SAV etc.) or in more than one capacity (general-admiral for Monck, Rupert, etc). Marlborough was exempt from the doubling of casualty risk that most 6-shock leaders were exposed to in the boardgame (I don't know if this is implemented in the computer game); that may explain his "not impetuous" note. Only Galvez is a mystery; he was a normal leader in the BG (though a very good one).

I suspect that rhony2 is right. The programmers left these features noted in the database, but never came up with a plan to implement them.

I also belives that this is something that they left out in the game.

Why not bring it in EU2??? Looks like acool thing!!!
