I just bought HOI2:Complete and have not played HOI2 since it was released. I am currently going through the leader files for Doomsday and see that only about 1% of the leaders have life expectancies to the new game end date of 1964.

There are numbers in every leaders file showing his start date, the rate at which he gains experience, his max skill level, traits, rank, and then start date and end date. 99% of the leaders have end dates before the game ends in 1964. Many have end dates even before 1947, when the original game ends. One thing that a leaders end date influences is the likelihood of him dieing in combat past his specific end date.

If this information Is correct, I am wondering how many of your leaders make it to the end of the game? A glace at the leader files shows me that most of them should drop like flies even before 1947 while there is still a good 17 years of game time left. Do you have enough leaders past 1947 to 1964?

I need to know more about how many of your leaders die (KIA) before 1964. Each leader in the game is given an End Year, which the wiki says is the year that your leaders die. It says that: As of 1.2, the leader may die in that year and subsequent years if he is engaged in battle. This leads me to believe that the End Date in the leaders.csv influences the date at which leaders die.

I have not played HOI2 in a long time and am just wondering if many leaders make it to the end of the game without being KIA?

It would help me to know if a leader with an End Year of 1939 can make it fairly far into the game without being KIA or if the 1939 End Year increases his chances of dieing in 1939 and even more in subsequent years.

It would also help me a lot to know this info and any other mechanics of the End Year in the leaders.csv. I am currently going through all the countries leader files and editing the End Year etc. This work will likely take me 100+ hours, so any info you can give me would be useful.

It would be especially useful to know how the End Year relates to a Leaders death. From game experiences if you can tell me it is random or that your leaders live longer, this could save me a considerable amount of work. Please Share your thoughts/game experiences. Thanks;)

I think it's random and you don't have to worry about them so much. If something bad happen just load the game or replace them with the new one. However I didn't pay attention about that. The reason is

_KIA happen to me less than 5 times since i play the game (playing it for a round 1 year)

_Play as the Major countries you have a bunch experience of leaders who you can promote and replace easily since I often use large stacks (9,12 divisions) so I need fewer leaders.

_I don't know how but you can always add more leaders for countries

I've never finished a game till the end date of 1964 but I have gotten to 1955 with Germany once and I can tell you that my leaders did not drop like flies past 1947, and this while being at war since 1939.

Does anyone else have late game experiences of many leaders dieing or know more about the game mechanics that determine a leaders death?

From your replies I am thinking that the death of a leader might be a random battle event and the only thing the End Year for each leader represents is the chance of getting that event or not. If it is the leaders End Year or later then the leader has a chance of being KIA.

I thought that the chance for KIA was greater and that it increased for each year after the leaders End Year. I then saw all the leaders End Years in the files and thought that very few would live to the end of the game.

Since I got HOI2:Complete on Steam, earlier this month, I have been editing the leaders end years based on the above assumption. I have put a good deal of time into it and already have 100 out of 180 countries leaders modified. I might as well finish since I have edited so many. I am also going to look into ministers, events, tech, and other files in the game to make them more compatible with the new end date.

Your info could have saved me a lot of time, but my editing is not a complete waste. I also changed all the leaders start years to 1930, removed the Old Guard traits, and evened out their max skill and rate of skill gain. If anyone is interested in these files let me know to save yourself the time of editing the files yourselves. Once complete I may offer them on the no-time-limit thread. Hopefully they can be of some use.

Their are a number of events that you could download (depending on what country you play) which will retire the old guard. In fact the events are usually entitled "retiring the old guard" This will eliminate all leaders with the old guard trait and give more of a chance to your up and coming commanders to actually get a commission, unless you always do this manually anyhow. I personally like to do this when I play with a country which I know many of their generals ie:Germany, USSR, or USA.
