So, I've heard recently that in fact Marie-Antoinette may not have been the one to say those infamous words.

Apparently the quote is originally from Rousseau's Confessions written in 1768 and attributed to a "Great princess" - which would tend to point in the direction of Austria's Queen Marie-Therese - presuming Rousseau didn't just make it up.

Anyone know the truth of this?
