Whoops, slight miscommunication here, I'm afraid - this is Working As Designed.

Your liege only enters a regency if imprisoned outside of the realm. Specifically to avoid this exact exploit :p. Bit gamey, but otherwise you could stay forever-regent with one abduction, as here, bypassing the rest of the system, which is not desirable. We've got some ideas for manually forcing your liege into a regency in the future, but they'd be more deliberate than this.

If you'd like a Watsonian explanation: no one in the realm accepts that you're in charge basically forever because you stuffed the king in a bin and clamped the lid down.

Why not just give the regent a big opinion hit for people not invovled in the abduction plot so that a civil war likely breaks out over the issue ending your regency?

:shrugs: Why acknowledge the authority of a regent acting in lieu of a monarch they're clearly usurping? Getting the benefits of the regency system should require involving yourself with the system, not working around it. If we change this, it'll be to invalidate you out of the position entirely. More consequences for things like kidnapping your liege would be welcome regardless, of course, so likely a solid shout to do anyway.

Ahh okay. From the wording of the regencies description, I thought that might be the case. I guess I’ll have to murder my way into a regency then.
