Hello,
I wonder whether you plan to support Linux? I like the game and I would appreciate its availability e.g. on Steam for Linux or in the Ubuntu Software Center.

So, can you please port it over to Linux?

Cities in Motion under Wine (not so awesome)

Hi,
I had a chance to try Cities in Motion in Linux (using Wine). Even though it was running well (the performance was only a bit slower than on Windows) I experienced several crashes through the gameplay. So it was not playable at all.

Therefore I am still asking for the proper Linux support. I expect the creation of Linux binary would not be so hard to accomplish since there is a Mac OS X version already. However, I can imagine supporting another platform may be a difficulty. But I would like to see whether it is possible Cities in Motion will be ported over to Linux.
The distribution problems may be solved using Steam (that would mean supporting various Linux distributions would not be necessary and so it would be much easier to support Linux).

Thanks.

Thanks for the feedback! Taking on a new platform is always more work than just the porting and publisher is the one to make these calls, but let's see what we can do :)

Wow, thank you very much. Though you have not specifically stated you are going to support Linux this is much better answer than just ignoring my request. I can promise you that if you'll support Linux (through Steam or any other distribution platform eg. Ubuntu Software Center) I'll buy the whole game including all addons because I really like it and would love playing it on my favorite platform (in my case Ubuntu).

Again, Thank you very much for your statement, because it was already more than I could even imagine. This response is unfortunately not common for every developer, but I hope it will change in the future since Linux gains more and more attention.

Preferably not USC if you want to support more distros than Ubuntu, for instance Mint (which has become the 3rd biggest distro already IIRC). I would be okay with a download Linux binaries button here on the forums, only available for those who have registered his/her product key already...

If only hidden links were available then it is the worst support that can be offered (except no support). I agree that Ubuntu Software Center is not a solution if Cities in Motion are going to be supported an all distributions (It is a nice addition, but not a requirement). So, I think that supporting Linux through Steam is the best way.
The reason I don't like the idea of binaries available (only) on the web is that it would mean the installation on Linux would be much harder and casual user would not like it + would criticize Linux for it. I think Linux can be supported the same way Mac OS X is, if of course developers behind this great game will agree. I certainly hope so and I am very excited about it.

I too just made the change to Linux (though the Vienna map I've ran from the start up to 1950 wasn't backed up and I lost it!).

Is there any way to run the Steam copy of CiM on Linux or will I have to wait to see if it is supported in the Linux store? The Linux client won't allow downloads of Windows platform games and I can't work out how to run Steam games when running the PC client under Wine.

Unfortunately, until CiM is available for Linux natively you can't (unless running Steam under wine).

PS. I just saw some screenshots and videos of the upcoming game: Cities in Motion 2 - and it really is an astonishing work. Is there a chance CiM2 will be available on Linux (e.g. through Steam)? I would so much love to play the game.
Thank you very much.

I don't think we will hear much news about this game. CiM2 is comming out next week, the devs are probably working on it full time.

Ohh, a linux port, can I have a function to run scripts so a port of ModManager can be done? And what PLATFORM constant is used?

The team are on christmas vacation until January 2nd. So we will not get any news about it until then.

Yay, I just noticed the same. Any hint about the branch password?

Oh well, since the team is back today (according to what giladteller said above) maybe a public beta can start soon. :eek:o
