Since when they come out with problems the forum is filled with posts of complaints all the same, I would like to make one also to talk about it well, like this one. Unlike Leviathan I have not encountered any bugs in my run with Livonia, and in general the update seems really well assorted, the paths to undertake with the northern nations are fun and well characterized, completely different from the dlc mission trees more old. The AI has definitely improved and a lot of great QoL changes. The only negative note: the price especially for some countries, but lately everything has increased so patience. Great update for me, recommended.

Agreed. Honestly if Paradox continues to put out quality content like this then I'll happily keep purchasing DLC that keeps my favorite games fresh. While there are valid criticisms of some past DLC and how games are compartmentalized and sold in pieces these days... It can be done in positive ways like this that actually introduce new experiences into games that keep them fun. Bravo devs!

Could not agree more. I do not know whether it is due to a "home field advantage" or because Paradox got more experience working on DLCs over the years but this is just magnificent. Due to time restrictions I could only play as Gotland yet and had a blast raiding my way across the Baltic Sea. Performance is much better for me, certainly even better than the mentioned 10-20% increase. It is more like 30%, but that may have to do with my "unique" setup. I play the game on a Win10 installed through Bootcamp on a 2016 Macbook Pro. It is NOT designed for gaming that is for sure.

Some general remarks on the DLC/update for anyone who is sitting on the fence. By boosting the PLC region the DLC makes the game more balanced in a lot of ways. 100 years into the game, and I do not see a mega Russia or an end-game Ottoman Empire. Sure they still grow, they can still beat their opponents, but the rate at which they do so is more reasonable. Baltics are action packed to the brim, there is something going on all the time, and I love it. It can rival the HRE or any other content-packed area in the game right now, there really is either a war, a scripted rebellion, a huge event, or new states being formed every single year. Its interactions with the rest of Europe too seems to be more fleshed out. Hard to put these into word honestly, one must see it in action to understand it properly. AI is superb, England is an actual ally now, fighting with all its might in Europe, quite the sight I must say. They are also more aggressive in general, which keeps one at their top game. Last but not least, though I am not into colonization myself (shocker, I know) AI is handling it much better than before. 100 years in and they already made a good progress in South America and the Caribbean, as should be the case. Natives are still quite problematic but that is a pet peeve, at least for people like me who only visit the Americas when they are really bored of diplomacy, trade, and warfare back at home. Oh, how could I forget government reforms. I think the single most important update this time around was them, and they bring so much flavour to the game. I said this before and I am going to say it again, though Paradox's DLC policy has its fans and "not so fans" as long as this quality is assured, there is still SO MUCH that this game can make use of without destroying the engine, or making the game unplayable in any way. Government reforms are always welcome, formable nations are super fun, missions trees of this quality would be God-send, in short content that does not bother the engine much is awesome and I would pay more for such treatments of Middle East, Steppes, South America etc. Thank you for all your hard work!

+1 on these two points, I was playing a Sweden game last night and England had rivaled me, I was like "pfft, they'll never do anything, I can leave my back unguarded for a while I go beat up Russia again." I then look back at a 30k stack on Stockholm and my galley fleet in smithereens, like.. damn England, you didn't have to break it to me like that.

I was here when emperor came out. And the same for Leviathan. I bought emperor at launch, didn't bother with Leviathan. I must agree with you: this DLC is well made. I already encountered some minor bugs but they are long from being as game breaking as those DLCs. Paradox Tinto definetly caught up the Tech Debt, I'm really satisfied with the status of the game. I was really harsh towards the devs, but it is now time to congratulate. Amazing job this time! Money well spent, and it is not something i say often these days.

They've done a really good job with this DLC and patch. I've not experienced any bugs yet which is great. It's great to see after the disaster of Leviathan day 1 (or month 1 should I say).

I noticed this in my Denmark run. I called in Austria and France to fight against Britain and Muscovy, and while I invaded England from the north the AI was landing in Ireland and the south and sieging London. Even Austria. I was amazed to see it. I called them so I could ignore Muscovy and focus England but Norway and Sweden were dealing with Muscovy just fine on their own. I had a blast challenging myself to play with mercs only, got the full use out of admin ideas for once. I'm glad they are borrowing professionalism free mercs from mods like Anbennar.

I wholeheartedly agree as for the patch. I needed to try it out as Lübeck, and I must say it's an absolute joy to play with the new government reforms and crazy missions.

And for once I actually feel like I'm playing a strategy game! Having to cross check missions and their impact and different interactions is REALLY fun. At first I was slightly overwhelmed, but it's like I'm playing Europa Universalis of the future - it feels so responsive and alive!

Also, this should be a given, but thanks for not releasing half-finished stuff ;)

Yeah, I kinda only slept for 5 hours tonight because I had things to do in my Sweden run.

The features of this DLC are interesting, I like the ability to give more privileges to estates, the new mission trees are fun (and overdue - Sweden wasn't even overpowered anymore for the past few patches!) and, maybe most importantly, the worst bug I've encountered so far is an encoding error in a province name.

There were a few... less than optimal... DLCs in the past few years, but I have high hopes that Tinto has found its footing now and can continue to operate like this.

The steam rating is 87% positive. And I give 10% of the thumb-down reviews are troll posts. Just read them. Trying to get awards from people. It is a great update. Congrats Tinto.

My only real complaint about the DLC or patch so far has been the price increase. Otherwise, the free patch was a great improvement to the game and the DLC missions, events and flavor has been fun. Keeping Sweden loyal as Denmark has been non-trivial, which I love.

Although, I will SORELY miss taking Quantity so I could ignore manpower late game...

I haven't bought the new DLC or played the new patch yet, but it looks great, the dev diaries have all looked great, and ever since they announced Paradox Tinto, the rate of bugfixes and genuine improvements to the game has just gone way, way up.

Usually I wait a while for the DLC prices to drop, because I don't mind waiting and I like saving money, but the level of quality coming out these days makes me want to just grab it immediately, because I am loving the quantity and quality coming out.

Yep, I’ll agree. The game feels “alive.” Stuff keeps happening all around. The AI sees opportunities and goes for them. I like this a lot.

Glad I was still able to get a Burgundian Inheritance, although boy did I have to work for it this time!

edit: fighting the Ottoman as Saluzzo is finally a challenge! :)

This is fairly off topic but I got a kick out of your two decade old AAR links in your sig. Too bad the links are dead...

People really like to confuse patches with the dlc itself. Outside of mission trees everything else is just the patch and has nothing to do with the dlc. In terms of value Leviathan trumps this dlc by enough miles to not be visible anymore. Favors, extending regencys, colonial nations, monuments, totenism rework are just half of the things Leviathan added. Leviathan even had almost as many unique mission trees as this one not even including region specific mission trees for countrys wich dont get a unique one. So unless you wanna say several features every player will be using in almost every game he plays are worth less money then some mission trees do not call one dlc superior then the other espacially with price accounted.
