I have read some threads in your forum and tried CORE 0.25.

Since I usually play Japan or Poland I would like to know if you could actually post a list of the countries which are possible to play with ?

I mean REALLY POSSIBLE - not starting with some odd collection of units and absolutely no chance to change anything about the possible outcome.

I hope to get some sort of an answer because it can be quite... annoying to learn that there is absolutely no chance to survive so a list of countries which are either doomed to die or are possible to use would be useful.

BTW As far as I understood it correctly Polish OOB was 'moderated' because it could defeat Germany demolishing the mod's concept - is it the case with all other countries since now even democratic states can DOW Germany ?

P.S. About changing the history - I don't actually think something like this

should be easy to accomplish, but what is the point to play a minor state if you cannot do anything at all ?

Those model images are Skytth's icon set, of which a COREd version is available. The rest looks GIP (even though I don't know the Polish look within GIP).

From 0.30 onwards we try to have specific CORE graphics packs, which will be complementary to GIP (for starters). They won't have Skytth's icons in it (for now), but those probably will be available as an add-on.

No,it isn't GIP.Map in GIP is fully in color, the one here is black and white.

EXACTLY it was just an example what I managed to achieve with POland with a different mod (with techteam takeover on normal/furious) - Stalin was defeated in 1946, Hitler was removed in April 1939.

Anyway I would like to see an answer to my initial question.

What countries are possible/impossible to play in the next CORE ?

It is a question about user-friendliness - should I waste my time and efforts only to discover there is no chance to do anything with for example Poland ?

If not I will use Japan - the navy in the CORE looks wonderful and I would play with it in the end anyway, but I suaully test my country first because I like tense sitiuations and the thrill of the coming apocalypse... of course if I can change the outcome... ;)

We try to model things historically, so playing Haiti is going to be an exercise in futility and frustration, I'm sure. Any reasonably sized minor (such as Turkey, Romania, Poland, etc) and all majors should hopefully be rather enjoying to experience.

But remember, odds are in favor of reasonably historical outcomes, so Poland and Czechoslovakia (for example) may/probably will bring some frustration when their time runs out. We do our best to not skew things so that a minor can suddenly become a major through conquests - its just not plausible, from a historical perspective.

I realise that.

The thing is that from reading the discussions in the CORE forum I got the impression that for example Poland is meant to die. Of course that to some degree can be said about the vanilla, but the question is how difficult it will be to 'turn the tide'.
I know that Germany beaten in 1939 (or earlier) ruins some concepts, but actually... ruining those plans is the only way Poland can survive. ;)

BTW I have beaten Germany and the SU together with most of the european Axis only by breaking the chain of events in the 34 mod by annexing Czechoslovakia and the Baltic republics + large industrialisation. I do not demand such possibility, but some way to avoid the 'Golgotha' of the 2nd WW should exist (without submitting to Hitler's will) otherwise the game with Poland makes no sense at all.

There is, but mainly by Germany being checked early or an early alliance with the other powers.

It has never been difficult. I played Poland twice with CORE and found two survival strategies that worked.

First, by moving your sliders to dictatorship, you can join the Axis before summer 1939. Once you are in the Axis, the chain of events causing Germany to declare war on you is disabled. Just stay in the Axis, and be prepared to invade the USSR when war breaks out. I ended up annexing some eastern European territory and having a bunch of puppets in formerly Russian territory.

Second, you can join the Allies in 1936. You may have to use 'acceptall' to accomplish this. But if you do join the Allies, you have two good options: get the Allies into a war with Germany in 1936 or 1937, or use the techs you get from the Allies to beef up your military until you can hold off the Germans. If you choose to wait until 1939, you MUST take military control of France and the Netherlands so that you can use their troops to attack Germany from the West. They won't do it on their own. Once the Allies break through in the West, the attack on Poland falters and you end up with most of eastern Germany.

Look above !

I trashed Germany and later Soviet Union, I even consider leaving the Allies, founding my own alliance and conquering the world so no offence but I know something about surviving with Poland.
I just wanted to know if this mod allows anything successfull.

I am choosing the (basically) second strategy. Joining the Axis - NEVER !
Though there is no possibility for government-in-exile I am trying to play as it would happen and nothing would make Poland ally with Germany. :p

Then I am not sure what you are asking. I was just telling you that I use this mod and that I have played two successful games as Poland.

The limitation of this game engine is that you KNOW what the AI is going to do. Germany will attack Poland while leaving few forces on the Western Wall. All you have to do is hold on to Warsaw. Take military control of France and Netherlands and attack into Germany immediately. They will either overrun Germany or they will divert forces enough to enable you to hold your own. That is all there is to it.

Clearly, in a historical game Poland is going to lose. You seem to be asking if you can get an ahistorical result from a game played historically. Well, you really can't. At SOME point, you are going to have to do something different... join the Allies early, or join the Axis, or declare war before 1939, or force an Allied crossing of the Rhine in 1939... SOMETHING other than the way it happened. You cannot, by definition, "play it as it went".

All I wanted to know if I am condemned to die - having read some threads in CORE forum made me wonder.

If I can that is all I need.

I assume no country has been made easier to defeat than it was in the history ? Thinking about last stand as Czechoslovakia or maybe Yugoslavia (if those ethnic tensions were simulated as it was by things like events).

Apparently there are no real 'adjustments' to bring down the starting opponents. and that is all waht I want to know.
Now I only hope the naval war will be done as well as it seems. :D

Hi,

As of now (0.25) I don't advise playing CORE and expecting the naval experience to be that great. The design looks good, but in the end the performance is not there just yet. Especially as JAP you will be very disappointed. The JAP surface fleet is useless, even when fighting other surface units. We're completely rebuilding some aspects for 0.30 and there will be additional changes later as we incorporate all of the new Armageddon options as well. I'd advise waiting until 0.30 is out (soon) and then giving it a try.

As for POL, the design is to model every nation in a historical context. Unless you do something radically different POL will be defeated in 1939 in almost all games as they are caught between the proverbial rock and a hard place.

mm

The realistic and enjoyable naval warfare is what I expect from 0.30 - I can't stand not to be able to modernise my ships so Armageddon is the only option I consider. :)

About Poland - I have just started writing my first (and last) AAR and got REALLY amazing results just in the beginning...
I 've set my goal to conquer the world anyway, but saying good bye to Hitler in 1935 is what I would never expect...

Funny thing is that France declared the war...
