Recently I got a problem on my network and could be easily solved by Load-Only stops.
I got a bus route from city centre and all the way through the furthest suburb town in my city, but this bus route keeps picking up passengers in the city centre and getting other parallel inner city route have low ridership. Furthermore, the suburb town is so small that is worthless to get this line upgraded to larger buses or more frequent services. Splitting up the line into 2 or 3 is not an option as our passengers is less likely to use our services when they have to change to other lines.
In my home city, the fare system is different from what in CIM2: the fare a passenger pays is for the remaining journey of the bus, regardless where the passenger get off the bus. Thus, local passengers will rarely get on longer buses routes (except for the ones who are rich and willing to take an expensive luxury airport bus for 2 stops even though they are not heading for airport). With the current zone system, the way to allow longer bus routes maybe a section of Load-Only stops on journeys out the city centre to prevent the overloading of longer lines just picking up local passengers and reduces ridership on local lines. Passengers keeping in the city area will ignore this longer line and taking other local lines.
Of course, Off-load only or even an All off-load option in midway stops may also be introduced so that the bus lines can behave as bus lines in reality: Heading for city, off load all passengers in the city terminal, and pick up again on its return journey. But the necessity is not as much as Load-Only stops as when the bus off-loads in city centre in inward journeys, it will not create trouble for passengers who travels to suburbs. Thanks in advance.
