I'm in my second GC as England (England, always) and two random drops to (-3) Stability while annexing Scotland and then converting to Protestantism has made 1492-1560 extremely unpleasant.

Naturally, I bump my stability slider way up, save a little room for naval tech and infrastructure. At the end of this birth process, England is nicely unified, (+2), and well on the way to Santal and Illinois when the cash slider becomes cement gray and locked. This fixed slider allows next to no room for juggling the other sliders.

I have taken infrequent loans and paid them off directly. What cash I can accumulate has gone to promoting bailiff's in my five most populous provinces.

I have not seen this problem of the locked slider mentioned in the forum. It happened in my first GC, but later went away. I don't mind operating under a monthly deficit to save for infrastructure improvements, but as it stands now (after trying to bankrupt the inflation in half with five defaulted loans) I have inflation of 134% and a treasury slider locked all the way to the right. No other sliders can be moved. Before my bankruptcy idea, inflation stood at 97%.

How do I get out of this? I have a real nice jump on Southeast Asia in this GC and it's a shame to be told that I can't advance to 'mayors' until the 1830's. Any advice out there? Thanks.

Huh?
(head whips around)

'double clicking' unlocks the slider? I thought I tried that!

If this is so, let all ye note the humble stupidity of Walsingham.

At least I have some saved games around 1560.
By the way, I have had only one EU crash since playing with Norton firewall and antivirus disabled. EU likes your computer's COMPLETE attention.

Double-clicking a slider both locks and unlocks it...

And EU is quite stable - I normally have ZoneAlarm, Norton AntiVirus, MemTurbo, and a billion other things running in the background and EU has never crashed. In fact, I frequently ALT-TAB back in and out of EU to do other things.

Stability

I too have had no problems using 1.08 with NAV and Blackice Defender running as a single player. *However* Defender prohibits multiplayer EU even at its lowest security settings. NAV doesn't seem to have the same effect.

Crashes

I had piles of Crash problems (4 in 20 minutes)while playing my first GC as Russia. Needless to say I developed the habit of saving every few years, but the next two GC's as Spain I had no problems with crashes at all....

When I think about it most of the crashes occured during wars with Sweden and Poland when I hit the offer peace button, EU disappeared and I was staring at my desktop.

Like I said though it only happened in that GC.

crashes

I had several crashes as well when clicking on the "offer peace" button (actually I believe it happened when I was too quick and *right-clicked* instead of left clicking on it...But I'm not absolutely sure). Anyway, I have other problems with the peace offerings.
