(Normal/Normal, 1.01, etc. et. al.) 1st French AAR, writing as Iam playing so the tone of the AAR isnt as artistic as some others. Oh wel.

In 1936 the French Republic finds itself in so-so shape. On the positive side the French Empire is gigantic, covering 3 continenets and second only to the British Empire. The Vietnamese jungles provide the Republic all the rubber it will need and thus there is no need to drain oil resources or trade on the world market. Unfortunatly the resources of oil are not nearly as plentifull with only 5,000,000 barrells of oil being produced in Syria.

The Armed forces are under the command of Field Marshal Maurice Gamelin, a proponent of fire support and defensive initiatives. The metropolitan French army is divided into the 7th Arme(7 infantry, 1 cavalry) under the command of Field Marshal Gamelin based on Metz, the 3rd Arme( 10 infantry, 1 cavalry) under Field Marshal de Tessigny based on Strasbourg, the 2nd Armee( 8 infantry, 1 cavalry) under General Waygard based on Calmar and the 1e Mecanique Armee(2 armor, 1 mech, 3 moto) under General De Gualle based on Chaumont. The 7th, 3rd and 2nd Armies were manning the vaunted Maginot line whilest the 1st Armored army was prepared to back up any of the 3 armies in need of assistance or assit Belgium or exploit any kind of chink that might be found in the German line. In the South there were the Armee Des Alps(2 mtn) under Major General Hubert and the 1st Mountain Corps(2 mtn divisions) under General De Leners. In addition extra fortifications were being built in the South to make an attack futile. Along with these troops there were 6 divisions of the Arme De Afrique in North Africa, 2 divisions of Arme de Vietnam. Syria was covered by 1 tactical bomber squadron. The Airforce consisted of 3 pre-war fighter squadrons and 4 tactical bomber squadrons . Admiral Darlan is the commander of the mighty navy, spread equaly among the Mediteranian and the Atlantic.

On the diplomatic front the Republic launched an initiative to lure the Italians towars their politcal viewpoint and thus avoid fighting a 2 front war.

Economicly the French have 192 IC and extra industrial complexs are being built all over Northern France. The supplies of rubber will keep the industries humming.

The military is large but its doctrines out-dated. The orgonizational value is only around 10 and therefor it is imperative too research more doctorine, along with improved tank designed and multi role fighters. If anything is left it will be focused on improving artilery and anti-tank guns in hopes of creating motorized anti-tank divisions that would be cheaper and faster to create instead of full blow tank divisions.

Nice a France AAR!

Wainting to see how it goes.

Good luck facing the Germans :)

Going to aid the Republicans in Spain (To really make sure its not a two front war)? Or can you even do that?

Also, do you become Free France in Germany takes Paris?

The years of peace 1936-1939.

In the 3 years of peace the french army and airforce underwent several upgrades and developments. De Guals army recieved 1 division of tanks(amr-33's) and 1 division of mechanized infantry(both units were equiped with artilery brigades)

Doctrine was also improved and it was decided that a tactical defensive would benefit the army the most since the majority of troops were infantry divisions. Superior artilery, tank and anti-tank gun research began as well as medium tanks and improved light tanks. The products of this research would be H-39 medium tank and FCM-36 light tank. Both armed with the identical 50mm tank cannon.

The airforce was also re-equiped with new multi role fighters that substantialy encreased their fighting abilities.

The navy was ignored because the diplomatic corp secured Italian nuetrality.

Economicly Franch trade was booming, the rubber of Indo-China provided the republic with all the resources needed to run its factories and the surplus was traded on the world market so that the French military had all the oil reserves it requered.

On the world stage the Japanese were embroiling themselves in a war against the Nationalist Chinese which alreaddy annexed Sinkiang and the Communists. Closer to home the Spanish Civil War broke out and the Republic imediatly sent aid, however this was not enough and the nationalists triuphmed.
The High Command could not tolerate this since it would force the army to defend a yet another hostile frontier and so a coup was launched brining into power a much more friendly regime.

In 1937 Austria was anshlused to the German Reich, this caused muhc anxiety in the world since Hitler clearly broke his promise however the war entry level was not high enough to warrant a declaration of war.

In 38 the Czechs were forced to give up the Sudatenland and a year later were annexed, Tiso's Slovakia was set up as a puppet German state.

The British government had enough and proclaimed a gurantee for the security of Poland, however a simple gurantee would be soon seen as not enough to provent german aggresion.
