Will there be references to Lovecraft and Lovecraftesque things in game?

I sincerely hope so!

I mean hell, I don't even care if it's not the sci-fi part of it (actually I'd love it if there were some events that had a vague and implied supernatural-ness to them, but that they don't elaborate on). I have an eldritch fever!

And the only cure is more cowbell Bloodborne!

There is literally a Chtuluesque race. So yes again.

What?

FIrstly, these are mollusks, not 'chtulu-like' race

Secondly, this is not even 'race' but one of 'phenotypes' for races to be based on: races can be mammalian (for example humans), reptilian, avian, insectoid, fungus or mollusk.

I'd like to play as the incomprehensible outsiders and mess with natives. Be all Mi-go on their Boop.

They already mentioned two things that are 'lovecraftian' in nature.
The tearing of a hole in reality in the late game, or even one of your science ships becoming the Event Horizon.

"By the late game you might find that one of your science ships has become the Event Horizon, ripping a hole in reality to a dimension of horrors. Before you know it, you’re scrabbling to militarise in order to survive a fight against invaders from beyond and you’ve accidentally fallen into Warhammer 40K."

Speaking of which here's another though, what if instead of fighting the abominations, you instead give in to the dark cult spreading through your empire and conquer in the name of your new masters.

I, for one, welcome our new horror beyond imagination overlords.

That actually brings up another thought now that I think of it.
Since extra-dimensional horrors have been confirmed, what about semi-deity figures that actually exist as the heads of in-game religions.

If you have a system based on the Gods Need Prayer Badly notion then you can prevent it from becoming OP.

Just a thought.

I'd love to see that. What really is the distinction between a 10th dimensional being and a god?

Existing in and outside of space-time. If it's outside it's a god. Like the chaos gods exist in the warp (an outside place).
Inside space-time is strictly a wizardous or sorcerous entity.
