Loyalty Loyalty Loyalty.

In SR2020 lots of crazy shingles went down with Loyalty, and this was very apparent on the forums. Some people were saying "Well those Bosnians gotta assimilate eventually!" whilst others were saying "That doesn't make any sense bro." Which begs the question How will loyalty be "implemented" in this game. Also, one of the developers brought up special loyalty in SR Cold War like, say Yugoslavia, Serbia is part of Yugoslavia, but they're loyal to Serbia. Stuff like that.

My understanding is that loyalty hasn't changed in the assimilation sense: If the USA conquers Mexico, the land will always be loyal to Mexico.

However, unlike before, even after the previous owner has been eliminated, revolts can be created via external pressure. So if the USA annexes Mexico, the Soviet Union can stir up revolters who will try to re-create Mexico by liberating land from America. In 2020/GC, once you annexed Mexico, that was it, no more revolts to ever worry about. Big change if indeed the revolters are numerous, aggresive, and persistent enough.

The Yugoslav example is expressly to model that various factions there were more loyal to ethnicity eg "fellow Bosnians" than to Yugoslavia. I wouldn't be surprised on launch day to find that Czechoslovakia has two halves who are loyal to Czech Republic and Slovakia respectively, but that's just a guess on my part.

I'm interested to see if loyalty in split Cold War creations as still the same, eg, Germany, Vietnam, Korea. I imagine if they had "dual-loyalty" as part of the engine, we'd have heard about it by now, though.

wow, spooky how close you got that...

We now can control the level of "loyalty penalty" such that over time you can make the area's lack of loyalty of little importance. But yes, they refuse to change loyalty. We're still testing the balance on all of this and will be testing right through release.

(correct for Czechoslovakia)
