The game crashes after pressing start. I am playing on a Mac Catalina. I have 200 hours of play and had no problem. I have done the change to paradox_settings "shadow_resolutions" but it doesn't work for me. Apart from that, if I play in a resolution higher than 1650x1080 the screen is divided and there is a black piece.

I do apologise for this problem, which is a crash that happens on MacOS 10.15 only with this game. It only happens on Macs with video hardware that is below the minimum requirement for the game, so far either Intel video systems or nVidia GeForce 650M.

I have lodged a new bug report on it to the developers, and attached your ticket and many other such reports to that bug report.

Despite it only happening on unsupported hardware I do hope and expect that it will be fixed, but whether that fix will make the next game patch 1.3.2 is unknown at present.

In the meantime you can revert to the game patch 1.2 in the Steam Betas tab for the game, which doesn't have this problem.

Thanks for your answer. Do you know if there is any option to play Livy on mac? Or is it currently impossible? Will you consider this problem for the next patch? Thanks in advance

To update myself, I have now seen 2 cases on 10.14.6 also; both with under-spec video systems (intel or old nVidia) too. However it is much more common under 10.15.x; I have around 20 cases of it there. So there is clearly contribution from game and in most cases MacOS.

I've logged a bug report on it which the developers are considering.

It should work under MacOS if the Mac has supported video hardware. If not, then booting the Mac into Apple Bootcamp will work, as the Windows Intel DirectX video drivers do not seem to have or trigger the issue.

If neither of those are options, then 1.2 or a different machine are the only known other ways past the issue, I'm sorry.

I have the game in Windows, in the bootcamp, but it doesn't work either. The game crashes when I press start or sometimes when launching it. Any solution to play it in bootcamp?

That becomes a Windows problem, and will be an unrelated issue to the MacOS one discussed in this thread.

Did you do the shadow_resolutions fix mentioned in the OP here?

Same issue here on macOS 10.15.2, MBP 2019 13". Just bought it in July, surprised to hear its hardware is already below the specs.
Being new does not mean it has supported hardware; virtually all MacBooks come with Intel video systems (for battery life) and so are underspec, I'm afraid.

The same is true of Windows laptops, but for whatever reason this problem does not occur there - they'll just be on the slow side. That said as the game is not tested on underspec hardware on any OS, it could affect Windows laptops at some future point.
