The game loads, then when i click start to begin a new game the game crashes or freezes.

i have read that others have had this problem, have tried a restart, a reinstall, checked the integrity of files files through steam.

if there is a patch to rectify this issue please post it here.

gratitude in advance.

If you have an Intel video system, this is a problem for which there is no current fix. This is because the game is not supported or tested on Intel video hardware.

The only workarounds are to run the game in Bootcamp if you have that, revert to 1.2 in the Steam betas tab, or play on another machine with supported hardware.

sorry about that!

Given how about a third of the bug posts here are about this AND that the game works fine in 1.2, why are y’all missing out on customers for future content by NOT just seeing how to fix this? There can’t have been that many graphical elements added in 1.3

It’s just so infuriating to know it’s probably the stupid practice dummies that got added. The game isn’t broken for Mac intel users — just some random throwaway graphic probably

The callous response on this is really surprising from PDS, and not just for a game that is struggling to attract players. Once you've told the playerbase that you'll break games in the future and just decline to fix the issue, you've really crossed the Rubicon (pun intended). Should I continue to buy new PDS games? I don't know.

I was in the Stellaris section and I figured I would take a minute to see if anything had changed here in Imperator. And yes, it has...

Tech Support has now officially become, “It sucks to be you.”

That’s just great Paradox. Good job.

As mentioned above, you are openly stating that you will break games with updates, and then refuse to fix them. Good to know.

My first Paradox game was EU II when it released. Since then I have bought not just every PDS game, but also every single DLC. Now, I no longer have enough trust to buy anything from you. CK and CK II have been my favorite games of all, no matter the publisher, but CK III is clearly out. As are any other DLCs for Stellaris, EU IV or HOI IV. Hell, I’ve even had to go into Steam and disable updates for all PDS games as I can only assume that they will also be broken as soon as any new patch is released.

edit: typos

Is there an estimate for when this issue will be fixed? Having paid $40 for a game and being excited for (the much needed!) addition of flavor in Imperator 1.3, it is very disappointing that this patch is not compatible with Mac.

One of the mods said they don't plan on fixing it, and that if it is ever fixed, it will be "by accident":

Why was it okay under 1.2 but not 1.3 ? I don't know but clearly some graphical function has changed that trips up the game under MacOS only.

Will the devs fix it anyway? I don't know that either, but I suspect that would only happen by accident, ie if fixing something else happened to remove the function that causes MacOS so much trouble.

This is really .... it used to run more then fine. Then an update is pushed and your response is ..”not our problem mate! “ just revert to an older unfinished version.

You know people buy your games because they trust that over time you will make an actual interesting and fun experience out of it.

imperator has been an overall letdown for many users but your customers still hold out for something positive to grow out of it. This flippant response above to customers that has placed their trust in you however totally erode and undermines that trust.

thanks for informing us on your companies position on the matter though. :(

Flippant? I'm sorry it came across that way. This game is not and never has been tested or supported on Intel video hardware under any OS, it is a matter of luck that it ever worked.

For all we know it may break for other OSs too in future, and this may happen to other games too - no current PDS game is supported or tested on Intel video hardware.

I must be a lucky guy, because HoI, Stellaris, CK2, and EU4 all work just fine on the hardware by this obscure company called "Intel", which is on every single Macbook.

I did not say all those games didn't work now, did I? I said they may not work at some point in the future in the same way this one stopped working between 1.2 and 1.3 .

Our games are unsupported on Intel video systems because they are slow and weak compared to proper GPUs, not out of some arbitrary hatred of them or something. I don't think a single one of our current game range is supported on them.

Some MacBooks have dual AMD/Intel video systems which are fine as the game runs on the AMD:

I doubt it. I think Imperator is getting away with this because the playerbase is so small compared to those other games that it's easy to just blow off a segment of users. Break EU like this and I bet it would be a different story.

This happened to CSL on Macs with Intels a few years ago; CSL has sold more than all the current PDS games put together I think.

That said, there is a workaround there that mostly helps, due to it being a Unity game.

We can process refunds only if you bought from our Webshop, please lodge a refund ticket at paradox.zendesk.com
If you bought from elsewhere (such as directly from Steam) you must approach them for a refund or credit.
I think the only way we're getting our money back is by non-purchase of future PDS games which "may not work at some point in the future ", except in the event of a fix that "would only happen by accident" according to our moderator.
Indeed, if you bought games in the future and ran them on unsupported hardware, it is possible they would not run at all.

And yes, it is an accident if a game runs on unsupported hardware.

Okay Andrew T,

Allow me to offer a humble suggestion, because while it might be “an accident” that imperator used to run perfectly fine on unsupported hardware, you are as a company missing out on customer care a little here and that is just a shame for both sides. I’m not at all impressed by the way this issue has been handled thus far, and I’d rather not see one of my favorite game developers in this position at all.

I’ve bought imperator because of the free try out on steam. A great way to put some new eyes on your game and it convinced me to buy in. It was free so I just downloaded it to see what it was like. No worries about system specs because I could just see how it would run right? All other similar titles run fine too so why even bother. I guess trying out your free game was my mistake. More the mystery that it ran perfectly fine. This caused a problem, I’d not further informed myself because it DID run fine. I’d seen that. I played that and never I repeat NEVER before have I experienced a situation like this. Where overnight a patch makes a game unplayable from a hardware perspective.

What is sad is that because of the promotion some customers like me stumbled into a trap. A trap created out of goodwill however. A free promotion. So later when I had the money I decided to pay full price however now the game doesn’t run. (I actually got it to run but now it suddenly runs like ....it crawls... whimpers .... and is generally unplayable.

so yes. I and others should ve considered the listed specs. However the free promotion lulled is into a false sense of security. This might not be your ultimate responsibility but it is something that could’ve been entirely avoided and the way it’s been brushed off so far in responses doesn’t inspire any confidence that situations like this will be more easily avoided in the future and don’t show much appreciation for the people that WANT to be your paying customers. Understand that we WANT to give our money to you and WANT to support your games because they are awesome. Please consider being a little more considerate. You are representing a company here.

Okay now that that’s off my chest, the suggestion is simple. When I load Total War Saga: Attila or whatever that game is called, a menu pops up telling me: ”Hey user, your hardware is unsupported! You can try playing and see what happens but ...eh!” (Something along those lines) this tells me almost everything I need to know! (It runs pretty alright though but the game makes SURE to let me know that it’s being run on unsupported hardware.

consider a pop up window like this on your future projects so especially if your company is doing free weekends for games and it just happens to run fine that weekend.

also at the end of the message add something like “ this means that future updates to this could possibly make the game unplayable for you”.

this is honest, transparent, easy to implement and makes your job easier as well as saves me a future embarrassment of throwing away €40. Win /win.

Thanks!

As mentioned above, exactly this happen with CSL a few years ago; that was also on Mac.

I've often wondered why Steam does not do that, as they know your hardware and the game's specs. They CAN for instance warn you that a game is 32bit only and so your Mac with 10.15 cannot run it, so why not say, an unsupported GPU or CPU?

If you bought the from us we can process a refund; if so please contact us via a ticket at paradox.zendesk.com

Sadly if bought from elsewhere we have no way of refunding.

Its okay. I’m not interested in a refund really. I was thinking about upgrading to some more friendly hardware in time and I’ll just play imperator in the future sometime. I guess It’s a luxury position though.
