I already read that sticky post, but I still don't understand why I can't get this:

Well, I AM connected via a speedy cable connection...

This usually means you are running a firewall or are going through a device that filters.

Valkyrienet does also go down on occasion so try another day, if that's not the issue.

I have my bets on the vnet was just down... There really should be some sticky in the mp forum about this since there are so many threads that are answered the same way.
