Making my immigrants stay

Playing as Brazil - I have a number of very small pops of European immigrants who appear in some of my provinces, stay for literally 3 or 4 days and then leave again. This cycle then reoeats itself again every couple of weeks.

What can I do to try and make them stay?

They don't leave they're assimilating, their numbers are added to existing POPs.

Isn't assimilation supposed to take ages to happen?

No, iirc it's checked either daily or monthly.

I think it is checked at the same rate as immigration, which seems to be 10-14 days.
