I just started a game as the Night Watch and I must say I was disappointed when I saw that the Wildlings are using the vanilla models. Sorry, but seeing the Wildlings as armored knights is just a huge immersion breaker.

That's just the most obvious example. Similar cases could be the Mountain clans, the Crannogmen, the Ironborn, the Northmen, the men of Craglaw point, and countless cultures in Essos.

So here are some questions.

A) Will the devs ever consider using the many sprite packs for some customized sprites for the various cultures?
B) If not, would someone be willing to contribute to a graphical submod to give each culture a specific set of sprites, when they are suited?
C) In your opinion, which sprites should be used for which culture?

Im pretty sure there's a good reason for them not using them.

It's actually not very easy to create brand new sprites, and I think they're better off putting work towards actual development of the game than focusing a few units moving along the wall.

Actually it's very easy, since you don't need to use BRAND NEW sprites. For instance, if you want the Wildlings to use the Celtic units you just change a line in the cultures file. Making custom sprites (combining the existing models) is just a possibility, the easiest route is still using the existing ones, and it's very easy to do it.

Im pretty sure there's a good reason for them not using them.

If there is one, I'm missing it.

Ok, I learned how to mod the sprites for each graphical culture. I cannot alter the existing models, but I can combine elements from a certain DLC with others from others DLC, or vanilla.

Theoretically, it's possible, for instance, to create a soldier with the norse shield, the celtic sword and the russian helmet. Just an example.

In the light of this, how should the units for each of these cultures look like?

- Northman
- Crannogman
- Skagosi
- Wildling
- Thenn
- Mountain Clan
- Craglaw
- Ironborn

Or any other culture that you feel needs different sprites than the ones they have currently in game.

Give me ideas please, and tell me in your opinion if they should have western / frankish sprites, celtic, norse or anything else or any combination of elements.

I'll do the rest.

Doing what you have done, would then require that anybody wanting to play the mod purchase those DLCs. While certain DLCs if present will add features, we will never make the mod require you to purchase any DLC in order to play.

So can you not make it use the sprites if the DLCs are purchased and just use vanilla sprites without the appropriate DLC? (Don't you just have to make western sprites the second graphical culture or something?)

That can work, for example there are cultures in game that use the african unit sprites if the DLC is present, but what Galaahd suggested about combining elements from various sprite sets and DLCs into a custom set won't work the same way and will require the DLC for everybody or cause ctds for people without it. At least that's how it seems to work with portrait graphics.

Ok fair enough. Off the top of my head I can't remember if the wildlings have norse sprites... if they don't that would at least be a quick and easy addition.

Well, it'd be completely optional. If you don't have the DLCs, simply don't use the custom modification :p

Right now there are several people not able to play the game with all graphical dlcs turned on, even though they own them. This is because the mod have become so feature heave, much more than vanilla CK 2. So I think the devs of this mod will be quite Conservative regarding using many of the graphical dlcs.
