Formed manchu and taken Beijing by 1480 so ming is pretty much screwed. my expansion west seems pretty much set so I was just wandering if anyone could give me any advice on invading Japan and also some good ideas to take.

I'd wait till there are only 2 big players in japan, or see if one of them leave the Shogunate. Get one province as a foothold and invade. Idk if what ideas you've already taken but I know you can probably try and get exploration to steal Colonialism from Europe. Or if your going to be invading China Admin would be good
Do you need to get exploration as first idea group to compete against europe for colonialism spawn?
