Hi there, I'm a bit confused about how the manufactory bonuses work (bowyer, swordsmith etc). The manual suggests that they give attribute boosts to infantry or cavalry from that province, which makes sense. The game tooltips, however, refer specifically to 'retinue and ronin', implying that levy troops from that province don't get the bonus. But since you can't choose which province to recruit retinue or ronin from, that doesn't make sense to me.

Secondly, is there any graphical indication of which troops have the bonuses applied to them, for example a little icon of a bow or sword? This would make it much easier to keep track of who has what. At the moment I'm not sure if any of my troops have upgraded weapons.

Manual is a bit outdated, so I think they've changed the concept since then. It looks like manufactories give bonus to your personal standing army of retinues and ronin, and has no effect for provincial troops.

It's rather strange how they work, but I will try to explain it.

The maximum bonus from manufactories your Infantry and Cavalry can have to its shock/fire value is 0.5.
The shock or Fire bonus that you get from a manufactory is divided by the number of units of that type you have.

For example, if you have 3 infantry regiments and one spearmaker, you will have a +0.5 shock bonus, because 2/3 is 0.666, but the maximum bonus is +0.5. If you build another 2 infantry regiments the bonus will decrease to +0.4, because 2/5 is 0.4.

So, for every 4 units of infantry or cavalry you have, you need to have a manufactory to maintain the shock or fire bonus.

Does the infantry boosts stack for arqubusers? I read some where they did in a post, but any confirmation on this?

I noticed in some earlier games none of the clans around me even bothered to build a single one...

They are rather expensive and can fall into enemy hands if the province is captured. So you need to plant them carefully.

Thank you for a very helpful thread! I would be interested to know why the developers did not include a trade/finance boost manufactory (unless I have missed something) - did they feel it would unbalance the game? I believe that this is a truly outstanding game, so no criticism or gripe intended - I am genuinely interested.

Question: when you hover over your troops in battle, does the bonus appear in the tooltip? Because I'm at war with another clan, I have a swordsmith but they have no manufactories at all. But both our cavalry have the same shock values when I mouse over, when I should have a bonus to mine (and yes my army was only retinue and ronin). Perhaps the bonus is applied in the background? It would be nice to be sure.
