There's been a long standing issue with map modes that still hasn't been fixed, I cannot find any information on this issue. The issue is alot of the map Modes doesn't work properly so the only real way to know if an empire likes someone or not is from rivalries and or war outbreaks. The Specific map modes are diplomatic, Opinion, and Ai attitude map Modes. If you click any of these it mentions that it will show you information of the selected empire, there's even a button when hovering over ai empires to switch to their pov yet it doesn't work you can click all day long but it remains to show information based on the player empire POV.
