Canada is known the world over for producing maple syrup, and it is a large industry in Quebec. The process of refining maple sap into syrup began with the Native Canadians but was produced on a larger scale by the French, and later, British. Adding it as a good produced would add some interesting flavour to the region, even if it is only a small percentage in provinces with high native assimilation perhaps?

It's overlapping over Sugar, but it would make sense that sugar would spawn in these regions. Does it not already?
It would be pretty similar to sugar, but it would be confined to the regions of Quebec, Ontario, and the Maritime provinces, maybe some of the New England area. I’ve never had sugar spawn that far north before. It might be a neat bit of trade node and trade good interplay that makes the Canada region more disputed instead of a consolation prize.

As it was historically (except in a few rare occasions as gifts) used locally (eastern nowadays Canada and northeastern US) as a replacement for cane sugar (that would have to be imported from the West Indies other wise) and not traded internationally (as e.g. furs were) it would not make sense to add maple syrup as an additional tradegood.

Ah, I see. Makes sense that it’s not in game then. Would’ve been kinda funny if it was.

While it could be cool and as a Canuck I would appreciate more representation of the land. There's plenty of other resources that need to be put in first before maple syrup. Beer isn't even in the game. And as stated earlier, mostly used domestically or surrounding areas so wouldn't make too much sense on the global market.

Maybe as a local modifier, settler increase or the like for controlling provinces that produce maple syrup in Quebec or the maritimes, even if it isn’t their global good

Thank for the suggestion, however we are not looking to add highly regional trade goods to the game.
Hey there, a quick question that has slightly to do with the subject of this thread; could we please get a look at the tradegoods for the provinces of the new map-update?

Why Quebec or Canada at all?
While Quebec and Canada nowadays are the main producer of Maple Syrup, they overtook the US production only in the 1930s, so far after the end of EUIV

Would make more sense to add the local modifier to the green mountains of Vermont :D

I just wanna say wow, this community is really great. Everyone is so respectful of a half-serious joking idea for the game and brought real, historical reasoning behind why it wouldn't make sense to add it to the game

I really don't see how you'd justify a modifier.

I can. Things like maple syrup, honey and tropical fruit and other stuff can be added to flavor the games provinces and give a minor income boost. Not a lot, maybe just +1 tax income (the same bonus the longhouse building gives), even though they wouldn't be trade resources it still makes me want to colonize these provinces just cus I want those pineapples!

Also consider this, +1 tax income is a fairly nice thing to have if you are a dirt poor native American tribe, or even a +0.1 tax income would be useful early on. If a 'local resource modifier' in a province helps AI tribes colonize then this could be used as a way to improve gameplay in the new world. These modifiers may not matter for Europeans, but Amerindian hunter-gatherer tribes even considered acorn trees a valuable source of food and fought over them, they certainly would value maple syrup.
