Hi guys,

I'm trying to edit the DH Full map. Since I wasn't aible to extract the map, a guy from the Forum here have sended me all extracted map files. (216 x.png & 1x .txt)

I've added one province today, edited the borders, colorscale and provinc ID.
Since DH Full uses provinces up to 2769, I've chosen for the ID map R: 48 G: 224 B: 16 which should be province 2770 (according to ids.csv delivered with the Mak Utility).

So far, I think everything is okay. I've copied the .png in the maputility Folder, added the HoI settings.txt (added game path and "MaxProvinceNumber=2780".

Then I've started the MapMaker.exe. I've entered 1 -> press enter.

The console Shows:
"Working"
"Status as of *Date* *Time*
Thread 1: Doing map_0_0.png
Thread 2: Doing map_0_135.png
*so forth up to thread 4*
Fatal error das occurred, send in *log.txt path*. The application will now exit.
Fatal error das occurred, send in *log.txt path*. The application will now exit.
Fatal error das occurred, send in *log.txt path*. The application will now exit.
Fatal error das occurred, send in *log.txt path*. The application will now exit.
After that, the program crashes.
Anyone knows this problem/knows how to fix it?
Can someone support me with creating a custom map?

Hope you can help me :)

Hi, I've been working on DH map myself lately.
If you are editing vanilla map, try using ID 2760 instead, as last 10 provinces are considered empty, and revert MaxProvinceNumber to 2770.

I am not sure the map utility ids corresponds to the ids used in DH. Check that first by comparing a couple of province colors with the corresponding color Id. I think the map utility ids is for the E3 Map. Not sure whether the DH uses the same order. If you have the same color I'd twice, mapmaker crashes. What does the error log say?

ooookay.

Strange.

I started the mapmaker today again to recreate the Crash (for checking the error log).
Yeah, this time, there was no crash, it works as intended.

I have to test if the map works ingame, but so far it Looks that at least the program works. I totally don't understand why since I have not changed any file since yesterday xD

Anyway, if there are maybe different colours between the DH full map and the E3 map; whre can I check this? is there somewhere a "DH FulL ids.csv"?
And, another question;: How/where I can define the Position of counters, ports, airfields etc for a specific province?

Well if it worked now, the most plausible explanation I can offer is that you left the ids or the province.csv file open when you started the mapmaker. That would cause it to crash. Seems you did everything right apart from that.

To define the position of counters etc. You can use the object editor that comes with mapmaker.

oh, okay, yes, that is possible lol^^
Looks like this wa the Problem :D

About the object Editor - If I start it, I only see the vanilla HoI map. How I have to setup the object Editor to use it with my modded map? I found nothing in the instructions delivered with the program itselfs :(

edit:
oh and another question: How I can create/edit/define a overlay like the DH full topographic map?

I can't remember exactly how the object editor worked. You either have to copy your new map into the darkest hour folder or specify in settings which map it should access.

The problem with the DH map is that once you extract it with mapextractor the DH topographic overlay is lost and I don't know how to replicate it. I am assuming they used some different whole map overlay and ran it through mapmaker and then used two different maps for map 1, map 2 etc. I used a different method for my map.

alright, I think I will try-and-fail with the object Editor. Somehow it will works I guess :D

hm, about the overlay. It's bad to loose the vanilla one, but you mentioned a different method for your map?
Can I ask how do you have made it? Maybe I can adapt yout method for my own Project :)

Okay. I want to try a new map edit at the weekend.
I tried to run the map extractor today to prepare the png files.

Here is my problem:
The tool will export the vanilla map, right?
I have to adjust the map first. or?
I have to copy-past the DH map into the vanilla folder because the tool cant extract the map_01 files, or?

To be honest i think a full DH map editor tutorial would be great but i think there is no one left who can make such a DH map editing tutorial, or?

To be honest i want to implement only one or two new provinces but i'm not able to get a working map. I got all the time ID errors. I have no idea what i'm doing wrong with the colors...
E.g. i want to add a new province to the DH map. I have painted a new province with R112 G32 B16 for the ProvID 2760 (not used DH province) but when i'm trying to run the mapmaker.exe i got a number of RGB errors (i think there are even RGB errors for DH provinces).
SO i'm kind of confused and frustrated by this tool -.-

Okay, on my side, main problem was extracting the DH map.
A nice guy here in the Forum have done this for me. Since the link is dead, here a new one:
https://mega.nz/#!gtozhRxL!O3z2k-qLc5moIBN1yl4hUenrHb8gCUdRBOXTGTCac6o

Short Map editing tutorial:
1. Download the Map, extract in the MapUtility Directory
2. Copy all files from the "/Maputility v1.2.5b/HoI" dir to the ""/Maputility v1.2.5b" dir.
3. edit "Settings.txt" ("/Maputility v1.2.5b"); Change gamepath (line 5) and max province (line 8, use 2770 in DH, since 2760-2769 are already as "user_province" inside DH full).
4. edit the map. Use R: 48 G: 224 B: 16 . It's important that the edited files have the correct bit depth. (ID 24, Tiles 32, Borders 32, colourscale 8)
5. Close all files related to DH
6. Run mapmaker. Enter 1 and wait until finished, then do up to Point 6.
7. Copy all files from "/Maputility v1.2.5b/map" to "Moddir/map/"
8. Edit max provinces in the misc.exe, distances.csv & province.csv. My recommendation: use in this file e.g. 3000. I had sometimes problems with editing the last avaible province (--> max prov = 2770 -> editing Prov 2770 Crashs the game. max prov = 3000 -> prov 2770-2999 editable without any Problems.)
9. enjoy your map :)

hope this helps you somehow. I've created several new provinces going exactly this way; should work so far :)

Hm. Seems to me that mapmaker step 3 wont work.
I try to make the adjacent.tbl. I have added the following code to the adj-mod.txt:
(It is my Shanghai trial)
Code:
#This file modifies the creation of adjacent.tbl by MapMaker
#It overrides the default calculations of province adjancies
#To be used, this file must be placed in the same directory as MapMaker
#This default file may be needed for HoI, use it if not using it causes a milestone error
#The format is from;to;action
#From is the first province, to is the second, and the action is either Add or Delete

2770;1338;Add
1338;2770;Add
2770;2514;Add
2514;2770;Add
Mapmaker is staring and after a couple of secs it will stop. When i'm clicking a key the mapmaker will crush... :/

I hate this tool so much xD

Hi,
When I want to use the MapExtractor of MapUtility v1.2.1 for the E3Mod I get this:

#################################
An exception has occurred.
#################################
Exception: System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException
13-8-2017 20:44:23
Message: De index valt buiten het bereik. Deze mag niet negatief zijn en moet kleiner zijn dan de grootte van de verzameling.
Parameternaam: index

I've put 'MaxProvinceNumber=8030' in settings.txt. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,
Radbod

hmm, idk, but in my case, I haven't edited the adj-mod.txt. I'm even not sure if I've used this txt after all.
Try without it - the provinces distances can be calculated on gamestart, using the distances.csv and These lines in the misc.txt
"# Distance calculation model. 0 - use the old, map based calculation (slower and incorrect); 1 - use real world distances from airdist.tbl (based on distances.csv) and navaldist2.tbl files
1 #0"

I never got the map Extractor working. You can use the .rar Archive I've posted above, it contains all DH map files. To extract the vanilla map, there are several working tutorials in the Forum here.
