After operating normal for a time, the sulphur in the world market stops working. The price fluctuates and the amount available fluctuates, but I am absolutely unable to buy any. I know there was plenty to buy because my friend was playing the US (I was Sweden) and was selling tons of it.

I stopped my factories from using it.

I did not have 'let the computer handle trade' checked.

I had 'buy 109" clicked and confirmed the trade (I tried other amounts, but no dice).

Is this a known bug. IT has happened several times to me.

Thanks.

The amount of material you can buy off of the world market is highly dependent upon Prestige. Thus, nations with high prestige can buy as much sulfur as they want, nations with low prestige get very little or none. Also, as time goes on, many nations build fertiliser and other factories which consume sulfur. I supect that low prestige and/or lots of fertiliser and ammunition (?) factories may be the cause.

I advise getting higher prestige.

Thanks for your advice. I wish it were that simple. I was playing as Sweden, 10th in the world in prestig (300). The market continually showed 18-20 available. After trying for several years, NO sulpher made it my way.

No - it is that simple. Sulphur is in short supply and is often consumed by the top 3-4 nations, especially if wars are common.

We've played around with this in beta and haven't really come to a 100% solution. The shortage can be cured but at the cost of making military factories (ammunition, small arms, artillery, explosives) more profitiable. Which makes the AI build these rather than railroads. Which slows down industrialisation in favour of more war and bigger armies.

1.03 will come with a tweak file that lests you change the avilability of each resource.

If you haven't got a sulphur supply it is normally cheaper to buy the guns etc off the market instead (buy mauser rifles rather than make swedish ones)

Sorry to barge, but this tweak, can be influenced by events, i.e. there will be a command, to change it by event. This will be GREAT, if it happen.

There already is??????

Basically all the tweak files allow you do do is set the baseline efficiency of each factory/RGO (how many units it produces). Events can modify the actual efficiency of the factory. Don't know how high it can go though (>100%?)

How do you think the clean coal etc events work??????????

Well you said availability, not production. What I had in mind is 1910 the coffee supply problem. So my question is if the WM can be modified through event?

Ok - the tweak file will set up basic production. There are events to increase or decrease RGO and factory efficiency. Between the two you should be able to model most events and balance points. E.g. if you wanted to start wine production high and then reduce efficiency due to the phylloxrya (sp?) fungus that affected world production you could.
