Hey there! I've looked around but can't quite seem to find out how to improve my realm's ability to handle being large.

There is clearly a size i can expand to, after which all sorts of bad things start to happen -- more revolt, lowered income, and my leader starts to get stressed/schizophrenic, etc.

Does the title of the ruler improve this? I.e., can a King handle more land than a Duke, and a Duke more than a Count?

It looks like Royal Post lowers the demesne penalty. Does anything else?

Can I adopt different forms of government to allow a larger realm? Are there other technologies i can research to allow a larger realm?

I want to make a big healthy kingdom. Right now I have a large Duchy and every time I add a new county, my income goes down and my revolts seems to multiply. Plus my Duke is stressed out! What are the steps I can take to improve my situation.

Yes, a duke can control twice the provinces a count can and a king can control twice the provinces that a duke can.

So a ruler with an intrigue of 8 can as a count control 2 provinces, as a duke 4 provinces and as a king 8 provinces without a negative effect

Remember that it only lowers the income-penalty of a province because you are over your demesnelimit. It has no effect on your efficiency.

It gives a small loyalty bonus to nobles and burghers and it lowers the province income with 5%

Either become a king or create more vassals

As long as your efficiency is above 80% you are pretty safe for any bad events.

Veldmaarschalk,

Thanks for the quick reply! A couple of follow up questions:

I asked about Royal posts and when I said "what else" you interpreted it as "what else can the royal post do for me?" but what I meant was "What else, besides a royal post, will lower the demense penalties?" it sounds like there are no other such improvements, but just curious.

More importantly -- how do I know my efficiency? How can I tell if I am above/below 80%? I should maybe check the forms to see if this is explained somewhere, but if there is a tutorial on efficiency you can point me to, that'd be great!

Thanks again.

p.s. I am an old time friend of Paradox -- very involved beta tester on EUII, so happy to be back playing a paradox game.

A Grand Palace also reduces the demesne penalty

Your efficiency can be seen here

Hover your mouse over your total gold on top of the screen that'll show you exactly how many provinces you can own without penalty. It's safe to go over the limit by two. As the years goes on this limit increase. From 1100-1199 it goes up by one, from 1300-1399 it goes up by three, and 1400-1499 four.

Extra provinces should go to a) the crown Prince or b) be made into Bishoprics for free piety.

Also see that button between the map zoom buttons on Velds screenshot? That's the ledger. It's very, very useful. Especially when you're trying to marry off a son. Clicking on every county in the entire world just to see if they have any eligible bachelorettes gets old fast.

Graphically?

His own personal mod made of his favorite mods he's downloaded over the years. The only way for you to get identical graphics files would be email from Veld.

In gameplay terms I'd assume it's a tweaked version of DVIP plus the British Map Mod.

Nick

DVIP ? Of course not, I am using my own mod either The Alternative Scenario Setup Mod or the Before the Conquest Mod.
