Are mercenaries allowed to make a war of their own? I came across this in one of my games:

As you can see the Bulgarian band is in a war with BE. They have no allies and no territory which can be occupied. They do have an army, but that only arrived months after I noticed this and they were steadily gaining warscore even when they didn't have an army on the map.

Here's a save if you need it:

I'm pretty sure this is WAD. Mercenaries can get an invasion war going if their employer stops paying them because he ran out of money. They almost always lose these wars, bit it can be amusing when they win.

OK. But in my game it seems that their army spawns andfights until it is destroyed then replenishes and then spawns again. And all the while they gain warscore. So they are in essence guaranteed to win. The war in my game is still inconclusive, but I'll let you know how it turns out.

Your screenshot shows a negative warscore. That can be confusing, since the sign doesn't reflect which person you're viewing the war on (if you could view the war on the Merc commander, it would also be negative). A negative warscore always means the attacker is losing. So the mercenaries are going to lose in the long run (unless a major civil war breaks out giving them a chance to sneak in and grab a territory or two).
