Hello,

I see you are from Dartford.

I was born in Surrey in 63 and grew up in Sidcup!

As my late Grandparents lived in Dartford I know the town well. When I was young I used to go the library a lot and always had a vivid memory (and imaginations) of the WW1 memorial. It was one of the things that really got me interested in the war.

I used to buy my airfix soldiers at the toy store on the High Street next to the Watt Tyler and my Granny would take me to the Wimpy's.

Later in life I spent many hours in the Tyler.....not always talking about the war - women didn't seem that interested.

My Granny had an airraid shelter in the back garden (141 Shepherd's Lane) which they turned into a coal scully.

My Dad - like Mike Jagger - went to Dartford Grammar on West Hill Road (?).

Fod memories of another time - sorry for the digression.

Not to be rude or anything, but there exists PM (Personal Mail) on the board for a reason. Don't make me post the picture.

Classic thread  I think it should be stickied immediately ;)

I pass it on the train most days :)

I pass the said war memorial every day. My house is the other side of the park. Some days the war memorial is even covered in bird droppings.

The toy store is now a downtrodden pub where the barmaid gets shit thrown at her by local ragamuffins, and where drugs are sold/taken by relatives of the British transport police.

Although I'm twenty, they audaciously asked for identification the other day. Fortunately, this was made up for by the interesting spectacle of a man who looked suspiciously like Jonathan Pryce who played Elliott Carver in Tomorrow Never Dies....irrelevant but perculiar, nonetheless.

I went to the Leigh City Technology College, formerly known as the Downs School, which, according to my brother, was a school for ruffians. Needless to say I'm not one of them. :)

Fod memories indeed - of a town that has lost its grace and traditonal market orientated appeal. :)

Now I suggest to Nurse that this thread is merged with something....anything...
