Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library - Runtime error

I get this error everytime I try to cast the lighting spell you see in the bottom left.
I am running with dx9 on xp 32-bit

I managed to get thru the above battle, after setting most of the video specs to minimum. Only the GPU thingy was on and texture was at max. Then it didn't crash when I cast that spell. But now I am further in the game and every time one of the two spell caster hero of the fomorian army tries to cast one of their spells, exact same crash! I have tried to set everything to minimum, but this time it doesn't work.

I realize that my computer is not great, but it is well within minimum system requirements. So why the hell is it crashing? Any suggestions?
