Hi everyone on the forum, I hope you're doing well.
I apologize if that's been brought up by someone, although I've never seen it anywhere. The question is - is military going to be represented in any way other than Tropico/Democracy-like articles of expenditures? Look forward to receiving your response.

To Colossal Order personally - Kiitos hyvästä työstä. ;)

I think the closest to military I could imagine would be the government asking permission for a military base in the city. Like in SimCity 4.

I doubt a city would be able to rage wars upon neighbouring cities on its own.

Kuusi palaa.

I seriously hope not

I think just having a military base/air base, with a few random army trucks driving/jet fighters flying around would be enough in my opinion, like in SimCity 4, which would some how have an effect on RCI or your money. I'm not sure if a "military invasion" disaster would b- ... actually... that would be pretty awesome, skip what I was about to say. I'd definitely like to see that as a major-tier disaster if it is at all possible, Red Dawn style; red soldiers paradrop/drive across countryside to your city and occupy as much as they can. The blue army come to reclaim it, red and blue dosh it out between each other until one wins and then goes home (signalling that the war + disaster is over), leaving parts of/your whole city damaged. It's more plausible than a bunch of UFO's raining random laser beams on top of you.

However, I don't think actually adding in an interactive warfare style of gameplay, as seen in strategy games, would be a good thing, unless this were an ancient/medieval city-building game like Caesar III/Pharaoh, where city protection was a major thing to take into consideration in city-planning (e.g. the construction of walls to make it harder for potential threats to enter).

Definitely think any military aspect should be confined to the SC4 base/income generator type content. Although being able to have an army/reserve barracks in your city could be a bonus in the eventuality that disasters are added to the game - soldiers in their trucks coming out and dashing around the city helping with rescues etc?

Like in SC2000, had the national guard that could respond to disasters.

i think there should be no strategy game mechanic to military as in company of heroes, age of empires etc. however i think that adding military to your city encourages high tech industrie in your city, military or national guard could help in case of disasters and basically act like in sc4 or sc2000. war as a desater (like UFOs) also sounds nice, but the player should have no influence on it, other then the barracks in your city reducing the amount of destroyed buildings. also how about a military airport addon? or a fire fighter airplane addon to the airport?

or a fire fighter airplane addon to the airport?

When I read this I imagined a military aircraft armed with giant water guns like an AC-130. But then I realize your referring to the Wildland Fire Aircraft. But as far as a military presence goes, I wouldnt mind having some extra security around ;)

friendly ac-130 above :D english is not my native language and i only know those planes from southern france, spain and some states in the U.S.. sorry for my weird naming, but you exactly got what i meant !

Wildland fires are a big deal in the USA. Now that would be crazy awesome to have a Wildland Fire hit the outskirts of our cities and force us to deal with the situation

So, the city where I grew up had a rather disproportionated number of military bases of all sorts within and without it.

However, I don't think it's up to the city itself to decide if you want a military base or not (especially in the past). But it's never fun to impose things on a player.
So, a possible compromise would be:
- If the player doesn't do anything in this regard, nothing happens.
- If the player enables a "We are patriots" policy, the city receives a good amount of money (so, it's something that could be done when things are not going well)
- At this point there's a 50% that the central govn will "impose" a base on you. If they do, they give you more money and you have to plop it
- If the player doesn't plop it within a timelimit, it's a massive happiness malus and money are destracted
- If the player plops it, it's money + happy industries + pollution like crazy

Maybe they should appear if you impose martial law on the city. If crime is rampant and your police force prove inefficient, you would be presented with the option to declare it (much like in Tropico). You then have to place the military base somewhere in the city. This decision would significantly increase safety, but drastically decrease happiness.

Or like for instance in my part of USA, the Government has given my Fire Department along with numerous others and Police Departments, military grade trucks and Humvees. Only thing is that we cant modify them and we have to pay for any maintenance :(

Why do they give military grade equipment to civilian institutions? Are they preparing for an invasion? What use is there in them for police or firefighters?

My guess is that this big military surplus is costing the military some cash they dont want to burn, so they gave it to us. The only time I foresee use of our military truck is if we get some road flooding and someone gets caught in the middle of it.
