I formated my disk few days ago, and backed up my savegame. When I try to load it, I get a massage:
missing eventdatabase:db\events\Ai_switches_CHI.txt(SOV, GER, JAP...)
I can ignore it, and the save game loads and runs, but will this affect my gameplay and how? Thanks

Are you playing the same version with same patch as the save was made from?

I think that would be covered by version no?

I will ask Max about these files.

in 1.2 I can only find "AI_switches.txt", "AI_switches_1941.txt" and "AI_switches1944.txt", but no AI_switches_(country).txt

In that case I would like you to completely remove the game, delete the 1.2 patch.

Then reinstall from CD, then Download a new copy of the patch, and install that.

I assume if you start a new game then save it, you have no problem loading that save.

If that is the case, then the only thing you can do is start a new game or just choose to ignore the errors and see if you can play on.

I really don't know what could be causing this other than perhaps you had installed some mod and forgotten that you had?

Yes, that could very well be the cause of your problem. Each save game contains references to all event files used by the scenario when the scenario was started. Note: it contains file name references, not the actual file contents. When loading a save game, those references are followed, and the game tries to reload those event files.

If for some reason one or more of those files is no longer present, you end up with the error you received. Now, the AI has been altered significantly in both version 1.1 and 1.2, and has resulted in a different set of AI files.

What you should do, is to start a new scenario with your current version of HOI 2, save the game, and reload that save. If the error is no longer there, then your problem is indeed what I described above. Then you basically have three choices.

1) Abandon the old game, as it has started under an older version of the game. This might be a good idea anyway, as you won't benefit from other improvements either, such as tech teams, leaders, ministers, etc.

2) Downgrade (aka: reinstall from scratch) the original 1.0 version and do not patch, if you really want to continue your current save game.

3) Manually edit out the references to the missing event files in your save game. I would not recommend it, as you basically destroy part of what the AI makes into an, well, AI, as defined by the scenario you originally started.

I would suggest you follow 1) ;)

I just remembered something. I started this game long ago without a patch. Then I downloaded 1.1 patch, and just a few days later 1.2 came out, so I downloaded it too. Maybe that is the problem?
Well I knew that was the case but since you said it wasn't I really did not want to contradict you in public. ;)

Good luck with the new game!
Have fun and enjoy.
