Better Looking Garbs

Better Looking Garbs is a portrait overhaul mod combining portrait DLC and custom new material to add diversity in clothing and styles for many of the games cultures. The faces, clothing, hair and beard-styles of each source has been recombined to create new portraits.
These new portraits fill the holes still unserviced with cosmetic DLC and add gradations to the existing portrait sets.
In addition to the portraits there are updates to the army and councillor avatar models.
While based around the use of DLC assets these are not required, an installer will add dependent parts of the mod selectively.

Goodie, and a new thread to boot.

Maybe you should also post this in the CK2 Plus subforum? I bet alot of people who play that mod don't know there is a portrait mod that is compatible with it. ;)

Any chance this is compatible with CPR Flavours and is there any chance of a stand-alone version of the diseases/injuries?

Nendur, I mixed and matched suitable male clothes for the ugric and siberian group if you're interested. I also did the same for hairs and beards for the male ugrics, but those files would require permission from Lux Invicta, so I'll ask them about it first.

Here's the armour set I mixed together (only BLG assets)

The selection code for the diseases can't be separated to an independent file.

That's looking really nice.

So, not compatible with CPR+? Or that we have to settle for the diseases included in BLG? Someone got the religious clothing working at least. All the same, fantastic job. Also thank you for updating CDPI! Love having even a stripped down version back. Even works in my save game!

It's just amazing, Lord of Pain! Well-made alternative set for The Finno-Ugrics. That's much more better than using the steppe clothes gfx for them. Will you integrate this stuff into BLG, Nendur?

What do you mean? You took the graphics from an older mod and integrated into your mod. Wouldn't just be able to update the Scarred mod by Euroland?

The portrait_properties.txt file also controls clothing, hair and background selection, so a standalone release will still not be compatible with other portrait mods. The relevant sections for merging are p6 imprisoned and everything down from there. You'll also need the gfx/character/shared/* files and update the frame counts in portrait_sprites.gfx.

I experimented with the files from BLG and CPR Plus today, and it seems straight-up compatibility patch is not possible due to size differences in some of the graphic assets. Nendur is correct about what kinds of files to edit, and I can show you what files to edit in order to make the trait-based graphics like scars and disease marks work with CPR Plus. You need to do the following:

(You'll need to strip everything else that might cause trouble, so it would be easier to just move the BLG files you need to HIP)

1) Move everything minus background.dds in gfx/characters/shared to the same location in the HIP folder
2) Open interface/portrait_properties.txt in both BLG and HIP. Copy and paste entries for p6 (prisoner) to p10 (eye-related graphics) from BLG's to HIP's
3) Open interface/portraits/portrait_sprites.gfx in both BLG and HIP with a text-editing program. You should be seeing entries for prisoner, blinded eyes, red dots, and scars in the first 50 lines of the code. Change their noOframes in HIP to be the same as BLG's.

And you should be good to go. You'll notice, however, that, for example, blindfold gets covered by hair. To fix this, you need to edit ALL portrait graphic files so that entries for p7 to p10 come below the entry for hair. This part is not difficult but time-consuming, and I myself haven't done this yet.

Let me know if you need help.

For a larger integration with CPR Plus it probably easier to work in the opposite direction. Combining the various clothing set sizes takes a lot of scripting, while skin replacements in the same sizes as the original are a drop in replacement. Only ranges of skin tones, like iberian to maghreb-berber and the indians will take some new portrait files.

You are right, for practical purposes that would be much easier (another reason why I think a straight-up compatibility patch won't be possible because you still need to move around and edit several files).

Hmm, since you naturally know much better about how portrait graphic work, can I ask you something? The problem I had was with headgear graphic files. Some of them are enlarged to the right on the same scale as the vanilla files, but there are others that are on different scale. I mean that the distance between sprites is shorter in some of the headgear graphic files than others. Simply changing the number of frames in portrait_sprites.gfx didn't do the job for files with shorter distance between sprites, but ones with the same distance between sprites as in vanilla files seem to work fine.

Is there something more that needs to be done? I changed the number of frames in portrait_spirtes.gfx and added entries for the extra sprites in portrait_properties.txt
