I am getting the attached error when attempting to go into 'Mod Tools'.

It's saying that I don't have an internet connection, but I do.

I've verified cache, disabled firewall and anti-virus.

Ideas?

Are you on the Steam or MS store edition? If the latter this is probably an Xbox user permissions issue.

@AndrewT
Steam store version.

This is the data from my launch settings:

Code:
{
    "gameId": "ck3",
    "displayName": "Crusader Kings III",
    "version": "1.0.3 (Crusader Kings III)",
    "rawVersion": "1.0.3",
    "distPlatform": "steam",
    "gameDataPath": "%USER_DOCUMENTS%/Paradox Interactive/Crusader Kings III",
    "dlcPath": "../game",
    "ingameSettingsLayoutPath": "settings-layout.json",
    "themeFile": "./assets/theme-settings.json",
    "browserDlcUrl": "https://store.steampowered.com/dlc/1158310/",
    "browserModUrl": "https://steamcommunity.com/app/1158310/workshop/",
    "exePath": "../binaries/ck3.exe",
    "exeArgs": [ "-gdpr-compliant" ],
    "alternativeExecutables": [
    ]
}

I am also not getting news updates on the front of the launcher either, not sure if related.

That looks exactly like mine. Was there something in there that concerned you?

What launcher version do you have? Current is 2020.12
It's saying that I don't have an internet connection
I don't see that in the error you posted actually ... ?

Does this happen with any other game that uses that launcher?

@AndrewT

Attached a screenshot of what my news page says.

The only thing which concerned me was making sure the paths were correct.

Launcher version also attached. I have it in debug mode now, but the same thing happens with debug mode off.

I don't have any other Paradox games I play currently. I'm using the CK3 launcher, not a complete Paradox launcher, just running it with Steam.

I see you've opted into the beta of the next launcher version - is there a specific reason for that?

I've seen that news error with Stellaris, but not this game. I'm trying to get input on this from the launcher devs here:
I don't have any other Paradox games I play currently.
Any chance you could run up say Stellaris and EU4, jst as a test please?

@AndrewT
I haven't chosen a beta version - this is how it came for me. How do I change the launcher back from beta?

Stellaris and EU4 both update news and allow mod tools to work.

In the launcher settings there is slider for beta or not.

@AndrewT

"Receive Beta versions" is off currently. I'll flick it on and see what happens, then off.

No difference I'm afraid. No new version downloaded and nothing changed flicking it off and on.

I think it's due to your login, are you using a beta account in Paradox?

@AndrewT
I'm not logged in at the launcher at all.

Should I try that?

@AndrewT
Have created and logged in account, no difference.

Additionally I did an uninstall/reinstall and when I did so I got the attached message first time rerunning the launcher.

Your SS up in post# 5 says "sandbox" which I understand to mean you are connected to an internal paradox server, not the public one.

Is this just the standard Steam edition of the game, or a beta or other one?

I'm sure that "sandbox" means you are using a login or launcher version from an internal server but I can't remember the details; I'm checking behind the scenes here and will get back to you.

I had a chat with the launcher team and the version you have is the Beta version. Can you please try and reinstall the launcher to see if that boots you back to the correct version (2020.12)?

Step 1: Remove game-specific files created by the launcher

For each game that uses the launcher, you will need to delete the following files or folders, if they exist, from the game’s data directory (e.g., Documents/Paradox Interactive/Age of Wonders Planetfall):
  • .launcher-cache
  • content_load.json or dlc_load.json (depending on game)
  • game_data.json
  • mods_registry.json (optionally, also delete the mods folder)
  • newsfeed
Step 2: Uninstall the launcher and remove its settings files

  1. Go to Add or Remove Programs and uninstall “Paradox Launcher v2”
  2. Delete the following files or folders, if they still exist:
    1. C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Paradox Interactive\launcherpath (should not exist)
    2. C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Paradox Interactive\launcher-v2 (should only contain logs)
    3. C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Paradox Interactive\launcher-v2 (should only contain logs)

Step 3: Download the installer package

For Windows: https://forumcontent.paradoxplaza.com/emailsignatures/2020.12-win-prod.zip

Step 4: Unpack and replace files

Unpack the file you just downloaded and place the three files in the installation directory for the game you're having issues with. If asked if you want to replace already existing files click "yes".

Step 5: Launch the game

Start Steam as administrator (right click Steam.exe > run as administrator), then start the game and it should ask you to install the launcher. Hopefully, this then solves all the problems :D!

Perfect! Odd that you were automatically thrown into the Beta launcher though but of well, magic I guess :D!
