DISCLAIMER: Currently, this is just an interest check. I have not started on anything at this point, as this would be an insanely massive overhaul of the base game.

So I sort of just realized that the base game could be totally converted in order to bring Stellaris back to Earth itself. More specifically, to a collection of islands in an ocean. It doesn't specifically have to be the Caribbean of course, but that seems a logical place to start.

The basic mechanical changes would be easy enough; changing Ethics/governments/etc to fit the timeframe more appropriately, changing technologies for the same purpose, etc. That part of it I'm highly interested in doing myself or with one or two other people.

The real daunting task would be the entire graphical overhaul required to completely change galaxies, stars and planets into oceans, archipelagos and islands, and space ships into sailboats, and space weapons into cannonballs and chains and what have you. I have little experience in modding aside from that I've done for myself on occasion, let alone in graphic rendering and design.

At this point it's just a thought and I'd like to gauge interest, especially from aspiring graphical modders. With the new Maya Exporter tool I'd think it's probably less complicated than it used to be at least.

So what say you Stellaris modding community? Given that the CK2 modding community has brought CK2 into space with Crisis of the Confederation, would anyone be interested in helping bring Stellaris back to Earth?

Perhaps more importantly, would anyone be interested in playing as a Pirate King? Or a Colonial Governor? Or a Native Tribe?

I'm not sure something of that scope is really possible with modding, sadly.

Actually, this is probably the hard limit of modding.

IT used to be impossible due to the lack of a model exporter, but now this is entirely possible.
