I always thought the start of missions were a bit silly, you can approach the AI basically at leisure and they won't react until they're in sensor range, which means you can spend plenty of time to set up the perfect position for a perfect first strike. Whilst this is the ideal approach, I don't think it's much fun.

There's also some exploits of this behaviour discussed in this thread.

With this mod and the default settings, the AI will know where you are immediately. Whilst their sensor range will be unchanged (so they won't be able to fire on you or sensor lock you) they will know where you are and will approach. As a consequence of this also you will start every mission in combat mode.

The settings allow you to give yourself the same detection radius increase, although that isn't turned on by default. By default only the AI gets helped.

You can get the "AlwaysDetect" mod from here.
