I can't imagine that I am the only one thinking this, but that purple pollution effect is straight up cringe-worthy. Would it be difficult to change that to maybe a brownish color/something along those lines?

Yes, I also think that it is really ugly. I think it would be more nice to have a gravelly or sandy surface, instead of this ''It came from outer space'' look.

The color has been changed to a more "gray" look in the most recent patch.. Looks better, still could be a little less visible imo.
So apparently this has already been patched out, and it now a greyish-effect:

It looks kind of too much like asphalt with just grey, but it's better than purple.
I think it should look more like a light brown, like dirt mixed with small rocks and a bit of grey.
The grey is a massive improvement, although I think that yellowish dead grass with patches of dirt would be a better texture to illustrate pollution as the grey now looks like gravel or damaged Tarmac. Although I know that they need a different texture for gameplay purposes, there are some big industrial buildings near where I live IRL, including a chemical works, and they actually have a lot of nice green grass and trees around the place.

Probably to draw the users attention (hell maybe it aided in testing as well)... it was just a bit too much.

The grey is definitely better - more in keeping with the industrial setting and clearer than using brown or a duller grass texture. It should keep it easily distinguishable from residential and commercial. What would make it even better would be to reduce the number of trees or replace them with scruffy looking bushes - but that's just being picky!
For me it is still purple. And it is hella annoying. (the river of poo as well btw)
