Current Version: 2.0.15 “Scarborough Fair” (Released 8/30/20, Compatible with Patch 3.X and Holy Fury)

Scarborough was an important trade entrepot for the Kingdom of England in medieval times. It hosted the great Scarborough Fair, a major trading event that attracted merchants and travelers from as far away as the Byzantine Empire. Later on, it would feature in one of the most famous English folk ballads, also called “Scarborough Fair.” In the traditional lyrics of this song, the singer tells his or her ex-lover through an intermediary that if they wish to become lovers again, they must accomplish a series of impossible tasks such as washing a shirt in a well where water has never sprung nor rain never fell. The opening refrain of the song is thus:

Are you going to Scarborough Fair?
    Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme
Remember me to one who lives there
She once was a true love of mine

Hello all! As of 8/30/20, I have uploaded my last official update for VIET and will no longer release any further updates (barring major bugs or issues), as I will now be moving to CK3.

I want to thank all for your support over these many past years, whether you’re one of the original VIETerans who’ve played my mods I first started modding or you’ve just found out about my mods. For those who don’t know, I modded CK2 on and off since August of 2012 - literally 8 years - and began work on the old version of VIET later of 2012, so it’s been a long journey that intersected with some of the most interesting times in my life, both good and bad.

For those who will stick with CK2, I hope you will continue to enjoy the “final” versions of my mods for a long time. For those who will move onto CK3, I intend to start work on a VIET equivalent for CK3 called Events About Simple Things (EAST, since I like dumb acronyms) - after I play some CK3 first and have fun with it, of course.

I wish to thank everyone who’s helped and supported my mod work over the years, whether you worked with me directly, provided me with improvements to my codework or helped me maintain it, or simply just enjoyed playing my mods. Thanks again all for your support, and enjoy, as always!

    Hello everyone, I’m back!

VIET Events Reborn is the reboot of the Events module from the Vanilla Events, Immersion, and Traits mod I created over six years ago before I retired three years back. Features include:

    • Lots of new flavor events and event chains that add immersion and a diversity of experiences to your playthroughs, ranging from small talk with courtiers and eating local cuisine to epic tales about love, philosophy, and the human condition.
    • Game rules to disable sillier events for those who don't like them, with three levels to choose from: Balanced (Default), Serious (Restricted), and Silly (Full).
    • New artifacts to collect and nicknames to acquire from these events.
    • Plenty of new event pictures, including cultural and religious variants of vanilla event pictures
    • Performance tweaks and miscellaneous improvements over the old VIET Events (many courtesy of the WTWSMS, LI, and Hide Your Jewelry mod teams)
    • Compatibility with almost everything since it doesn’t touch any vanilla files
    • French translation available (credits to Loup99, Mouchi, and Domper59)
    • NOT ACHIEVEMENT COMPATIBLE

At the moment, the reboot does not include all of the original events. To not overwhelm myself, what I want to do is slowly add the old events in batches so I can fix, tweak, or remove them as I see fit, while also adding in new events for variety. Any input with balance and bugs is much appreciated as I slowly bring VIET back to life! In particular I am still trying to determine a right balance in how often these events fire.

Please feel free to use my work in your mods, all I ask is that I and my old VIET partner Ordep are credited. If you want to use something that I borrowed from someone else, please see the credits section below.

I will also not be rebooting Immersion or Traits at this time, though my Immersion Packs are a spiritual successor to VIET Immersion, so feel free to check out Cybrxkhan's Immersion Packs, which are a smaller scale, more modular spiritual successor to VIET Immersion.

    CREDITS

A huge thanks to the teams of WTWSMS (especially ILikeTrians and Loup99) and Lux Invicta (including tsf4), as well as M@ni@c, creator of Hide Your Jewelry, for maintaining VIET these past few years and who I reached out to. The improvements these modders did to my old code have formed the basis for this reboot of VIET Events. ILikeTrains has been particularly helpful in catching some issues, and helping me adjust back to CKII modding. The French translation of much of the mod is thanks to Loup99, Mouchi, and Domper59.

Additional credits goes to theStormWeaver who I worked with every now and then during my retirement to add some flavor events to the Ancient Religions Reborn mod, and the inspiration for naming updates after people and stuff.

I also of course want to give big credits to the HIP team, whom I worked with for some time before I retired - in particular OrdepNM, who was in many ways my partner in crime and who stepped up to help maintain my mod while I was having serious medical issues a while back.

Additionally, please also see here for the credits from the original VIET mod, as there are a lot of people who I worked with and took stuff from over the years, and though much of their work isn’t in VIET Events, I still feel it proper to give them a shout out:

Additionally, there are a few modders and VIET players who have contributed significantly to VIET - not just a few bug reports or some assistance here and there, but significant amounts of content for the mod itself. As such, though they are not officially part of VIET, I'd like to honor them as important contributors to the mod as well:

    - Sleight of Hand - for random code all over the place (not to mention I wouldn't even be a CKII modder without him!)

    - jordarkelf - for various mini-mods, and tweaks to history, flavor, titles, as well as bug hunting and fixing

    - AnaxXiphos - for a lot of beautifully done artwork, including but not limited to trait, decision, and religion icons

    - superskierpat - for many culture-unique title localizations, many featured in uses HKC mini-mod, as well as other code

However, a lot of material have been taken from other modders and community members. Below I've listed everyone who's contributed something to this mod in one way or another, directly or indirectly. The list continues to expand as VIET get more and more feedback and suggestions, and integrates parts of other mods and mini-mods. If you believe you haven’t been properly credited for something, don’t hesitate to (gently) remind me!

Thanks again to everyone who’s helped made this mod the success it is!

    Version 2.0.1 "Dawn" (Released 1/1/19)
  • VIET EVENTS 2.0.1 "DAWN" HAS BEEN RELEASED!
Steam Workshop Download | Github Manual Download

“Every quarter has known us, and none bore our passing except with trembling. Perhaps you came to us through war, or study, or shadow, or the alignment of certain snakes. Though each path matters in its kind, the prize is always thus: welcome, novitiate, that you are here at all means that you have the worthiness of kings. Seek thy pocket now, and look! There is the first key, glinting with the light of a new dawn.”

Merry New Year to everyone, and with it brings a new update for VIET: version 2.0.1 “Dawn,” which adds around 100 events, some new ones and some pulled from old VIET Events (including a few VIETeran favorites). There are other major improvements too:

    • VIET Events game rule is now at the top of the game rules section for better visibility (credits to Mouchi)
    • Some VIET events will now affect decadence for Muslim characters as well as a province’s prosperity
    • A few new death types

Any input with balance and bugs is much appreciated as I reboot VIET. In particular I am still determining a right balance in how often these events fire. Here's the changelog:

    • Added 12 events inspired by TES IV Oblivion’s soundtrack
    • Added 8 Sun themed events
    • Added 17 Prophecy and Future themed events
    • Added new event chain: Oblivion (will be disabled with “Serious” game rule due to references)
    • Re-added the following events from old VIET: 9 Muslim, 7 Drink and Alcohol, 4 Elder Scrolls references, 5 Dirty, 3 Nature, 7 Dream, 7 Vegetables, 3 Water, 6 Bitter, 5 Eggs, 3 Dulcinian*
    • Re-added the following event chains from old VIET: Toothbrushing Siblings, Burnt Bread, and Succubus (first one will only appear with “All Events” game rule)
    • Several VIET province events will now increase or decrease prosperity in said province
    • Several VIET events will now lower or raise decadence for Muslim characters
    • Added some additional French localizations, courtesy of loup99, Mouchi, and Domper59 (some isn’t completed yet but will be finished in the next update!)
    • Added new deaths: Choked to death on food, Stung by Scorpion, Found Mysteriously Dead on Bed
    • Added several new scripted triggers for efficiency: is_sinosphere_small_trigger, is_sinosphere_large_trigger, is_baklava_culture_trigger, is_hummus_culture_trigger
    • VIET Events rule is now at the top of the game rules section for better visibility, and changed the text and color somewhat - credits to Mouchi
    • Added some new event pictures
    • Replaced the Greek and Italian food event pictures
    • Zoroastrian incest event now disabled with Serious game rule
    • “Who Cut the Cheese” event now only enabled with “All Events” game rule
    • Changed Trade Value effects of Bridge Collapse and Haunted Ship to be more in line with vanilla modifiers
    • Ancient Pottery artifact now gives +1 learning
    • Fixed Pistachio event having “Send emergency resources immediately!” option
    • Other misc bug and localization fixes, many courtesy of IHateTrains
*No actual Dulcinian heresy from the old VIET Imemrsion added. Based on the WTWSMS version, some of the old Dulcinian flavor events have been adapted to other religions and heresies as appropriate.

And some screenshots of the stuff that has been added to this update, both old and new:

For those worried about the blatant TES references, fear not - those will be disabled if you choose the Serious game option; Balanced will disable the more blatant ones.

The West Africa part is likely unecessary now. The author maybe added it before we even got Mali in the game.

Hello old friend! Good to see you around

Sorry cybrxkhan, I have forgotten to mention it.

Ok, I will merge the 5 translated file by Domper59 not merged yet, and continue to translate the new content in French.
    Merry New Year !

Merry New Year to you too! And thank you to you guys for working so hard on the French translation!

    Version 2.0.2 "Dusk" (Released 1/7/19)
  • VIET EVENTS 2.0.2 "DUSK" HAS BEEN RELEASED!
Steam Workshop Download | Github Manual Download

"Let him not vow to walk in the dark, who has not seen the nightfall."
    - J.R.R. Tolkien””

New update up. It is smaller compared to the last two, but includes about 50 more events, both new and those from old VIET. Next update will likely be much bigger and includes more stuff.

Also, for those using the manual GitHub download, I've changed how it works slightly - the link will now re-direct you to the release page where you can find a .zip file to download. Thanks to Mouchi for pointing out to me that GitHub had such a feature.

And, again, any input with balance and bugs is much appreciated as I reboot VIET.

Lastly, here's the changelog for 2.0.2:

    • Added 15 Night themed events
    • Added 10 Shadow themed events
    • Re-added the following events from old VIET: 5 bad, 5 bug, 5 old age
    • Changed ancient pottery event from a province event to a character event fired from on actions, to decrease its frequency
    • Commented out references in old VIET Traits in code
    • Fixed Large Antiquity shrine event referring to the province’s religion, not the owner’s religion

And some screenshots of the stuff added to this update, old and new:

I absolutely love this mod. Keep up the great work!

    Thank you!

Loving having VIET Events again, and better than ever! :)

I think the frequency of the events that add artifacts could be reduced. As it is, I'm seeing artifacts like ancient pottery virtually everywhere, and sometimes AI will even have multiple of them. When raiding, I end up looting ones that give +stats a lot of the time without even looking.

Thanks for the heads up! I think the ancient pottery event was especially guilty of this since it was the only artifact event that was a MTTH-based province event, rather than a character event called through on_actions like the others. In the next update, which will be themed around artifacts and such, I am planning some further tweaks to reduce artifact spam hopefully, including but not limited to random events that remove/destroy these clutter artifacts (as I call them), changes to the likelihood of the events happening, etc.

Its amazing that your back. The Mod, and the events, are amazing. I loved playing your original mod.

Thanks! Hopefully I'll be able to restore most of the original stuff eventually :)

Version 2.0.3 "Shen Kuo" (Released 1/20/19)
  • VIET EVENTS 2.0.3 "SHEN KUO" HAS BEEN RELEASED!
Steam Workshop Download | Github Manual Download

Shen Kuo was a Chinese polymath, scholar, and official of the Song Dynasty. Among his many achievements in various fields, he developed an academically rigorous approach to archaeology and history for his time.

New update up, with ~100 more events, both new from old VIET! The main additions are new artifacts and tweaks to how VIET’s artifacts work. The two biggest changes are that 1) most of VIET’s artifacts are now in a “clutter” slot, and you can only equip 3 at a time; and 2) there are now events where you could potentially lose clutter artifacts.

As always, feedback on balance and frequency of events is appreciated; I’m especially looking for feedback on how often clutter artifacts pop up, as besides the potential to lose them, I coded other tweaks to reduce OP artifact spam as some have reported. I will continue to tweak the frequency of artifact gain and loss in future updates as I've already gotten some feedback on that.

    And here's the 2.0.3 changelog:

    • Added 11 Ancient Culture themed events
    • Added 12 Clutter themed events (to gain even more useless clutter!)
    • Added 29 events to lose artifacts added in VIET Events - these fire on a separate on_actions and are fairly rare (though will be a little more common for characters with more than three VIET artifacts)
    • Re-added the following 41 events from old VIET: 7 Ancient Cultures, 9 Sound, 3 Prayer, 9 Memories, 5 Shady, and 8 Comet Events
    • Re-added event chains: Minotaur and Tarim Basin Scrolls
    • Added “Clutter” slot in player inventory for the miscellaneous VIET artifacts. Players are now limited to “equipping” three of these at a time, to prevent stacking a crap ton of bonuses.
    • Added many new clutter artifacts, including some ancient artifacts
    • Events to gain or lose VIET artifacts are now in a separate on_actions - will still need testing to tweak frequency
    • Added flags to VIET artifacts
    • Reduced frequency of VIET artifact events
    • Reduced chances of getting VIET artifacts if character already has one (via scripted trigger)
    • Reduced severity of revolt risk for several modifiers
    • Nutcracker and Hourglass artifact events now moved to the Five year on_actions pulse (where almost all the other clutter artifact events were)
    • Israelite/Jewish cultures now also count for is_baklava_culture_trigger
    • Fixed Mysterious Colors, Famous Bard, and Haunted Ship event modifiers giving global revolt risk instead of local revolt risk
    • Fixed Calipers and Abacus artifact events being able to fire if character already owns them
    • Fixed event where you go to the ocean at night firing if your capital isn’t coastal
    • Other miscellaneous fixes

And screenshots of the new stuff in the update:

Would this mod work with a random world, by the way?

It should work fine. However, now that you bring that up, I've realized a number of the events that are religion/culture/region specific wouldn't make sense with random world, so I'll have to account for that.

Greetings, @cybrxkhan! I hope you are having a good day
I have one question: Is this mod compatible with Ancient Religions Reborn?

I got a long weekend so I can't complain. :D Anyways, running with Ancient Religions should be fine. I've contributed some stuff to that but none which should conflict with VIET atm, the mod is designed to work even with major overhauls in theory.

    Version 2.0.4 "Heraclius" (Released 5/4/19)
  • VIET EVENTS 2.0.4 "HERACLIUS" HAS BEEN RELEASED!
Steam Workshop Download | Github Manual Download

Heraclius was Roman Emperor from 610 to 641 CE, and ruled during an important, transitionary period in the history of the Empire. During his reign, the Romans finally defeated their ancient nemesis, the Persians, only to lose many of their gains to the rising Arabian Caliphate. He was also responsible for reorganizing the Empire and his reforms, such as changing the official language of the Empire from Latin to Greek.

I’ve been busy with real life among other things these past three months, but I’ve finally found time to upload another update. In honor of Imperator’s recent release, this version of VIET is called “Heraclius.” It doesn’t actually really have a lot of Roman-related flavor, I just wanted to use a Roman name to be cool.

Besides new events and additions, there are a couple other important changes and tweaks. First, VIET’s clutter artifacts can no longer be stacked, for a little less spam. Second, certain events will no longer fire in random worlds for obvious reasons.

No idea when the next update will come (though it's quite tempting for me to get it in something by May 29) but as always, your feedback is welcome.

    And here's the 2.0.4 changelog:

    • Added 35 Spices themed events
    • Added 13 Skyrim dialogue inspired events
    • Added 13 Rose themed events
    • Added 3 Deer Musk themed events
    • Added new artifacts: Mythical Creature’s Bone (Dinosaur Bone)
    • Added a few more event pics
    • Re-added events from old VIET: 6 Curry, 9 Rocks and Minerals, 10 Urine, 5 Monogatari references
    • All VIET clutter artifacts can no longer be stacked
    • Some culture/religion/region-specific events will no longer fire in random worlds for obvious reasons
    • Ancient artifacts now have an “unknown” creation date, for more immersion
    • Dance with the Dead event chain can now happen to Latin, Iberian, and Celtic culture groups, or those in the Western European region, as well
    • Nutcracker artifact no longer limited to Christians
    • Pistachio event can now also happen in Asia Minor
    • Readjusted the likelihood of getting events and event chains, particularly the rarer ones on the five and ten year pulses
    • Incestuous runaways event will no longer fire for reformed pagans that have the divine marriage doctrine
    • Children under 13, as well as Celibate, Chaste, and Eunuch characters, can no longer respond a little too positively to the good whores province event
    • Fixed a couple childhood events giving Conclave childhood traits for those who don’t own the Conclave DLC
    • Fixed VIETnam.85 not triggering

    Version 2.0.5 "Broccoli" (Released 5/12/19)
  • VIET EVENTS 2.0.5 "BROCCOLI" HAS BEEN RELEASED!
Steam Workshop Download | Github Manual Download

    Remember to eat your veggies!

New version up. This is just a minor update to fix a few bugs, mainly the creepy Rose letter event that may have been triggering too much for some of you, which I felt was important enough to warrant an update like this one. I’ll see if I can have another minor next weekend after the new patch rolls around.

As a side note, my internet dropped in the middle of uploading this update, so I had to re-upload again, and on top of that Steam Workshop was derping out on me and refusing to update the mod and I had to try uploading it several times, so do tell me if you notice any irregularities that might’ve been caused by the mod not uploading properly.

    And here's the 2.0.5 changelog:

    • Added 3 broccoli flavored events
    • Added 6 virginity related events
    • Added a couple of Tibetan event pictures
    • Re-added the following events from old VIET: 4 furniture events
    • Increased Heartless Villain opinion malus
    • Rose tea event now gives a “Rose Tea” modifier (to be consistent with other herbal tea events)
    • Poetic Guardsman modifier now gives a slight bonus to combat skill
    • Fixed Musk Deer product event not properly referencing regions
    • Fixed creepy Rose letter event triggering too often
    • Fixed Auriel’s Ascension event from triggering when province is different religion than ruler

And a couple screenshots of new stuff from the update:

Version 2.0.6 "Ibn Sirin" (Released 5/19/19)
  • VIET EVENTS 2.0.6 "IBN SIRIN" HAS BEEN RELEASED!

Ibn Sirin was a Muslim mystic from the late 7th and early 8th century, who was supposedly well-versed in the art of dream interpretation. The Great Book of Interpretation of Dreams is attributed to him, though he supposedly never liked books and reading much, believing that memorizing things and not relying on texts was superior.

Just uploaded a new update to go along with the new vanilla patch. Nothing too major, though one thing to note is that courtiers generated via VIET’s events now have a very small chance of appearing with artifacts for flavor. As always, please let me know if you encounter any issues. I’m planning the next update for May 29, for meme reasons.

    And the 2.0.6 changelog:

    • Added 24 strange dream events
    • Re-added 12 TES inspired events from old VIET
    • Added new artifact: The Lusty [Culture] Maid
    • Military courtiers generated via events now have a small chance of appearing with military artifacts
    • Some courtiers generated via events now have a small chance of appearing with clutter artifacts
    • Miscellaneous bug fixes and tweaks as usual

And a couple screenshots of new stuff from the update:

“The city is fallen but I am still alive!”
    - Constantine XI Palaiologos, the last Roman Emperor, at the siege of Constantinople in 1453 CE

Just a small update to go along with Iron Century. A little bit of Byzantine related flavor because today’s the Fall of Constantinople, and a bit of Three Kingdoms related flavor because Total War Three Kingdoms was just released and it’s actually pretty good and helps me relive my childhood. Highly recommend it, it's probably the first Total War game I can say I've really enjoyed since I jumped ship to PI.

Anyways, let me know if you have any issues.

    Here's the 2.0.7 changelog:

    • Added 3 Constantinople themed events
    • Added 8 Three Kingdoms themed events
    • Added new artifact: Statue of Guan Yu
    • Re-added events from old VIET: 9 Byzantine
    • Misc minor bug and typo fixes

    Version 2.0.8 "Zerzura" (Released 6/30/19)
  • VIET EVENTS 2.0.8 "ZERZURA" HAS BEEN RELEASED!
Steam Workshop Download | Github Manual Download

Zerzura was a legendary oasis city said to be somewhere in the Sahara desert. It was also known for being white as a dove in color and full of treasures, and was also called the Oasis of Little Birds. Neither medieval nor modern explorers have ever found a trace of it, and it is likely a myth.

Another run of the mill update with some new events and a few fixes.

    Here's the 2.0.8 changelog:

    • Added 11 fantastical stories themed events
    • Added 11 daily work themed events
    • Re-added events from old VIET: 5 Halloween Food events, 18 Bread events
    • Fixed some minor issues

Version 2.0.9 "Speculum Maius" (Released 8/17/19)
  • VIET EVENTS 2.0.9 "SPECULUM MAIUS" HAS BEEN RELEASED!
Steam Workshop Download | Github Manual Download

The Speculum Maius, or Great Mirror, was a major work of scholarship by a French friar, Vincent of Beauvais, who lived in the 13th century. It is one of the most extensive encyclopedias and compilations of knowledge from medieval Europe, and drew on many sources, including Greek, Latin, Arabic, and Hebrew sources. The text is divided into three parts, called the Mirror of Nature (Speculum Naturale), Mirror of Doctrine (Speculum Doctrinale) and Mirror of History (Speculum Historiale).

Hello all, a new relatively sizeable update is now up. I've been busier working on the Dunhuang Immersion Pack, so this update took a while to get finished. Anyways, major highlights of the new update include 14 new useless clutter artifact to collect for your Elder Scrolls hoarding needs, as well as ~70 new events.

I've also changed some of the events that spawn characters of a specific ethnicity where their graphical culture has a chance of being randomized (logically, of course - i.e. a Chinese character may look Mongol or Tibetan, but won't look Ethiopian or Norse). Their intended culture will remain, but this will allow for a bit more of diversity and variation in appearance. It's based off some code I use in my own personal mod at the moment to change randomize the appearance of everyone at the game start for variety, which I may release in the future as an independent mod once I get it working in a way I feel is adequate for release.

    Here's the 2.0.9 changelog:

    • Added 39 generic events (mostly inspired by/using vanilla event pictures I’ve never used or haven’t used often)
    • Re-added 10 Muslim Republic events and 7 generic Republic events (do note, the Muslim Republic events aren’t necessarily for Muslims, some can fire if you’re in the right region)
    • Added 14 new clutter artifacts: pewter spoon, measuring rod, flower vase, ancient statue (desert), ancient stone head, prehistoric flute, landscape painting (ruin), landscape painting (lake), landscape painting (forest), leather knapsack, wooden bowl, weighing scales, hammer, trusty shovel
    • For events that spawn characters of a specific ethnicity, their graphical culture now has a chance of randomization (for instance, a spawned Chinese character has a chance of having a Mongol or Tibetan appearance, but their culture will still be Chinese)
    • Musk Deer province event now increases prosperity
    • Slightly increased the chances to get artifact loss events
    • Miscellaneous bugfixes as usual

Version 2.0.10 "Secret History" (Released 12/11/19)
  • VIET EVENTS 2.0.10 "SECRET HISTORY" HAS BEEN RELEASED!
Steam Workshop Download | Github Manual Download

The Secret History of the Mongols is the oldest surviving work of Mongolian literature. It is a semi-mythological, historical account of the life of Genghis Khan written sometime in the 13th century by an anonymous author. It covers his struggles in early life to survive his enemies and unify the Mongol tribes, and then his conquests across Eurasia. It is also touches on other topics such as Mongolian culture, religion, and politics of the time.

It’s been a while (not to my surprise at all lol) but here’s another small update to VIET. I should start a betting pool on when I’ll get my next update up. Though in all seriousness I want to get one up for Xmas time for the 1 year anniversary of the release of the rebooted VIET. It's also the 7th anniversary of when I released the first version of VIET - for any VIETerans out there, time flies by so quickly!

By the way, as for future plans vis a vis Crusader Kings 3, my plan is to continue working on VIET at least until CK3 is released, and then I will consider switching over to working on VIET or an equivalent of it for CK3 (and that will most likely include adapting events from VIET for CK2). Right now the only thing worrying me is that in one of the interviews, the devs mentioned that they want less random events and bigger, deeper ones, so I hope they’ll still have some sort of on_actions code, that way I can still throw in my event fluff.

    Here's the 2.0.10 changelog:

    • Added 7 events about reading stories
    • Added 10 Rain themed events
    • Re-added events from old VIET: 8 Holy War, 4 Zoroastrian, 5 Jewish, 8 Buddhist, 20 hummus
    • Fixed potential localization issues and other minor bugs when running the mod with Ancient Religions Reborn
    • Miscellaneous bugfixes as usual

I just wanted to get a quick update out before I leave to do my annual New Year Eve’s routine/traditions. Happy New Year and new decade to everyone!

    Here's the 2.0.11 changelog:

    • Added 20 Oblivion inspired events
    • Added potential new ending event for the Oblivion Dream event
    • Added new artifact: Shadow Banish Wine Recipe
    • Re-Added the Cinnamon Toast Crunch event chain from old VIET
    • Tweaked chances of events firing (again)

    Version 2.0.12 "Death" (Released 5/31/20)
  • VIET EVENTS 2.0.12 "DEATH" HAS BEEN RELEASED!

Strange—is it not?—that of the myriads who
Before us passed the door of Darkness through,
Not one returns to tell us of the road
Which to discover we must travel too.
    - Omar Khayyam

Hello to any following this - it's definitely been a long while (exactly a half year) since my last update, and a lot of things have happened since then, so here's a somewhat hefty update for your enjoyment (especially for those of us still stuck at home). I don't think I added any silly events this time, due to the more thoughtful topic of death, though a few may have understated gentle humor.

My plan is to have a couple more updates before CK3 releases, then I'll switch to doing an equivalent to VIET for CK3.

    Anyhow, here's the 2.0.12 changelog:

    • Added 52 Death themed events
    • Added 2 event chains: Lost Love and Dream of the Final Journey
    • Re-added events from old VIET: 4 time themed events
    • Added a few new event pictures
    • Fixed missing French localization I forgot to add in half a year ago
    • Fixed a few province events’ localization saying prosperity will be decreased when it is actually the opposite
    • Fixed Cinnamon Toast Crunch event chain triggering if Serious game rule is turned on
    • Fixed Nine Divines road travel dialogue event not triggering properly
    • Miscellaneous minor typos and bugfixes

    Version 2.0.13 "Rhazes" (Released 6/13/20)
  • VIET EVENTS 2.0.13 "RHAZES" HAS BEEN RELEASED!
Steam Workshop Download | Github Manual Download

“The doctor's aim is to do good, even to our enemies, so much more to our friends, and my profession forbids us to do harm to our kindred, as it is instituted for the benefit and welfare of the human race, and God imposed on physicians the oath not to compose mortiferous remedies.”

Rhazes (854 CE - 925 CE) was a Persian polymath, alchemist, and physician. As one of the topmost medical experts and researchers of his day, who was also widely respected for his deep sense of compassion and charity to everyone, including the poor and downtrodden, whom he often treated for free. Even after his death, his medical texts were studied for centuries in the Middle East and Europe.

New update up with some events old and new, not much else to say.

    And the 2.0.13 changelog:

    • Added 9 Medicine themed events
    • Added 20 Spices and Herbs themed events
    • Re-Added events from old VIET: 10 toothbrush and oral hygiene themed events
    • Rebalanced chances of province events triggering to be generally rarer
    • Tweaked Lost Love event chain to have more time between some of the events
    • Added decadence increases or decreases to several previously added events that didn’t have these effects before
    • Reduced chances of Ostrakon artifact event firing for anybody outside of Europe, the Middle East, India, and the Mediterranean
    • Miscellaneous bugfixes

  • VIET EVENTS 2.0.14 "GUY DE CHAULIAC" HAS BEEN RELEASED!
Steam Workshop Download | Github Manual Download

Guy de Chauliac was a French physician who was active in the mid-14th century. As the Pope’s official physician, he witnessed the events of the Black Plague and sought to understand it from a scientific, rational viewpoint, even to the point where he may have contracted the disease itself - and survived. His seminal work was Chirurgia magna, which covered a variety of medical topics based on his work and the texts of earlier Islamic and Graeco-Roman scholars.

Hey all - this will be my second to last update for VIET ever, as I plan to have one last update for next weekend before I move to CK3 modding.

At the moment, for any wondering, my tentative plan will be to work on a VIET Events equivalent in CK3 called Events About Simple Things (EAST), to go along with an Immersion Pack equivalent mod called Assortment of Socio-Cultural Immersive Add-Ons (ASIA) (acronym subject to change). As you all can see, although it's been around 8 years since I've modded CK2, I still love dumb puns.

    Anyhow, here's the 2.0.14 changelog:

    • Added 9 events about being stuck inside
    • Decreased chances of clutter artifact events triggering
    • Increased chances of clutter artifact destruction events triggering
    • Miscellaneous bugfixes

Version 2.0.14 “Scarborough Fair” (Released 8/30/20) - FINAL VERSION OF VIET
  • VIET EVENTS 2.0.15 "SCARBOROUGH FAIR" HAS BEEN RELEASED!
This will be the FINAL official update to VIET.
Steam Workshop Download | Github Manual Download

For the five of you reading this, the 2.0.15 version released 8/30/20 will be my final official update for VIET (aside from major bugs or issues). It includes a few miscellaneous goodies, as well as events including some old favorites for the VIETerans like a revamped version of the Qi Ma the Liar event chain. I will be moving to CK3 and after playing it and getting used to it, I will start work on a VIET equivalent which I’m tentatively calling Events About Simple Things (EAST, because dumb acronyms).

Please see below for the changelog of the final version of VIET, and a few preview screenshots as usual:

    • Added 12 generic, mundane events
    • Added two new artifacts: Reliable Lockpick and Decorative Drum
    • Re-added the Qi Ma the Liar events from old VIET as a standalone event chain, with several new potential options; unlike other major event chains, this can reoccur
    • Re-added 10 eye candy events from old VIET
    • Added several new event pictures
    • Misc bugfixes

As many of you know, I’ve been around on and off modding CK2 for 8 years (with several years of retirement/hiatus in between). It’s been a long journey when I made my first CK2 mod in August of 2012 when I was still fresh in college, and I released my first official version of VIET around Christmas of that year. These whole 8 years (far surpassing the amount of time I spent modding any other game, even if you take my hiatus into account) have been some of the most interesting in my life, both good and bad. I’ve had ups and downs in my life medically, professionally and academically, socially, intellectually, romantically, and more.

I can rest assured that modding CK2 was one of the good things during that time. As someone whose lifelong passion is creative writing, CK2 was one of the more unusual and interesting ways for me to express myself in writing - long-time VIETerans probably recognize some of the signature elements of VIET include not just my trademark humor involving stuff like baklava and Elder Scrolls references, but also the occasional random introspective musing, and sentimental stories here and there.

When my younger self eagerly (and naively) uploaded that first version of VIET all those years ago, there was no way he could’ve imagined all that has transpired in my life and the CK2 world in the past 8 years, and the circumstances surrounding this final release version of VIET. Who knows what things will be like, 8 years from now? And so to conclude, I wish to thank everyone who’s helped and supported my mod work over the years, whether you worked with me directly, provided me with improvements to my codework or helped me maintain it, or simply just enjoyed playing my mods. Modding wouldn’t be anywhere near as rewarding without the community. For those who are sticking with CK2, I hope my “final” version of VIET (and my other mods) will keep you entertained for a long time. For those who will be moving with me to CK3, I hope to see you there.

    Cheers,

    cybrxkhan
