Good day folks. Got the game from a friend who gifted it, and I've been wanting to do certain things. One of which, no matter where I looked I couldn't find it, despite the wiki stating it was in the Unit Folder.

I wish to increase Unit maintenance costs. I wish to alter them at the individual unit level. Yes I can add whole country modifiers but, where is the base (unit name)_monthly cost modifier?

Thank you in advance.

Maintanance costs are calculated from unit's recruit cost.

As far as I know, only thing you can do this edit game\common\modifiers\00_hardcoded.txt and add for example warelephant_maintenance_cost = -0.85 to base_values {}.

The downside is that this will indirectly affect other maintenance modifiers. For example North African tradition has -0.15 warelephant_maintenance_cost so in this case they would have no maintenance (-0.85 - 0.15 = -1).

In the defines there is a line LAND_MAINTENANCE_FACTOR = X which is the factor used when calculating maintenance costs for land units, double it and maintenance is doubled. It's right next to MERCENARY_MAINTENANCE = X which I also highly recommend increasing (It's only 1.25 by default = mercs are only 25% more expensive than regular units)

Edit:

For those it may concern, defines can easily be modded piecemeal by dropping a text file in the mod's defines folder that looks like this:

Code:
NCountry = {
    LAND_MAINTENANCE_FACTOR = X
}

Thank you very much for your help,I will attend these things after I get back from work. Also, thank you for the very early reply, it’s just on my friend and I have been experiencing a little bit of a wonky Ness already onto itself because we end up with almost unlimited man power and armies that are just way too unrealistic so I’m trying to stifle that.
