MODs & automatic game updates, what happens?

Today I've read the "Cities: Skylines "Beginners Guide to Using Mods | Paradox Interactive Forums" and I was left with a question.

It says that if the game updates, it doesn't mean that the MOD will also update.

So in that case, our save might not be working anymore.

Does that mean that if we have a couple of MODs and the game automatically updates, we might have to restart a new save every time?

yes, that's right. or wait until the mod author updates their mod to work with the new game version
