Hello,
Recently I have been trying to play modded Stellaris with some friends. We have done this many times before and have ironed out many of the issues we have had in the past. This time, I am having an issue that I and my friends are unable to overcome.
It appears that having any mods installed completely breaks the ability for me to connect to any games regardless of if they are on or not. My friends do not have this issue and are able to connect with each other both with and without our shared modlist. When I attempt to connect to a game, I get an error message suggesting it may be a firewall issue and that I am unable to connect to the game.
Stellaris is allowed through my firewall, Steam is allowed through my firewall, and I have forwarded all of the necessary ports required to play Stellaris online as well as enabled UPNP. A fresh reinstall (zero Stellaris program files on the PC) allows me to play vanilla Stellaris online. I do not believe my problem is a network issue despite the error message.
A fresh, vanilla installation of Stellaris works fine and I am able to connect to other servers easily and without any hassle. After downloading our mod collection and applying the mods and their load order through Irony Mod Manager I am not able to connect to any of my friends' games despite having the same checksum. Disabling the mods and playing Vanilla also does not work and causes the error message I mentioned earlier to appear on servers I could previously join prior to downloading the mods. To play on these servers again, I must unsubscribe from the mods on the workshop, delete the workshop folder associated with the game, and delete dlc_load.json, game_data,json, and mod_registry.json. After doing this, I am able to play connect to Vanilla Stellaris multiplayer sessions again, like with the Vanilla install.
I understand that the mods are causing the issue here, but they are not causing any problems whatsoever for my friends. We have the same installation, use the same Workshop collection, and use the same exact modlist/load order that we share via a .zip file for use with Irony Mod Manager. Is there any particular reason why this may be? Is there any work around? Is there another part of the Stellaris installation that might be influencing this?
Thanks.
