Are the mods for skylines only on steam or are they hosted anywhere else for download?

I'm sure there will be plenty of communities pop up soon for mods, the steam workshop is a complete mess of crap so real modders might just upload their stuff then have direct links on other communities to share their work.
right, thats cool. i might want some of the buildings that get released, but to be honest i dont really look round my citiy as it is because its so vanilla regards building types,traffic vehilces.......too samey.
Simtropolis is hosting some stuff. Steam Workshop needs some time for the popularity and rating filters to really kick in, but I do like just pressing one button and having mods installed and ready for the game. It's like the antithesis of the old SC4 dependencies-from-hell mess. Hopefully the off-steam mod sites stick to the simplest installations possible.
Yeah that was (or could be) hell, even with the dependency checker app.
You can find some mods on these fan sites. However, these mods will not "auto-update" as they are not through the workshop (and I think they do not have links to the workshop).
