Just a slightly crazy idea:

I was a bit disappointed to learn that controling ALL the provinces of any one resource, effectively creating a production monopol, was not rewarded by any bonus in VP or whatever.

I am currently thinking of creating such an event. I don't think the trigger would be a problem (it would just be very long to write, adding all the province numbers that need to be controlled, previously knowing which one are producing what).

But about the reward:
- VP reward is not very interesting.
- To make it interesting and dynamic, I was thinking about increasing the base value of the resource controlled. Do you know if it is feasible ???

Any idea were to stick this event so it is achievable by any country ?

Any other thoughts ?

Some monopols would be easier to achieve than other: Tea, Coffee, Slaves, Ivory are the easiest, Grain or fish probably mean a WC already...

Can't be done.

Also can't be done, though this at least has a chance of being fixed as a bug.[/B][/QUOTE]

It is to bad that it can't be done. It is a great idea. When I play it almost always make it one of my goals to get a monopoly of one of the resources.

It can be done as a random event. e.g., 'our monopoly in tea brings great investments in trade and huge tax revenues' or whatever.

Even using the BigEvents.txt file ???
(I mean the one w/ Tordesillas treaty, etc, etc...)

OK, I'll do it for a specific country just to test, and pass it around.

It probably can't be done because the AI won't try to aim at this goal (it is not programmed to) whereas the player will. Thus, unbalancing the game in favour of the player.

Nevertheless, I'll try it with a small country.
I'll let you know but probably only in a while. Be patient...

Why random ?

I was thinking about an event starting date: 1419, death date:1819

trigger: control enumerate of all province w/ the resource

reward: I don't know. Probably great investments in trade; new CoT; gold, etc, etc...

What do you think ?

Still probably an interesting idea for MP...

I hadn't thought of using a random event.

The reason it can't be done as a nonrandom one is that there's no way to make an event that isn't specific to a single country, other than duplicating it for each country that can receive it.

Yes, I'm aware that Havard's page and the scripting guide included in patches after 1.02 (?) say you can omit country = XXX if you have a province = ### line. This doesn't work properly; it'll trigger correctly, but it's always the human player who gets to make the choice if there's more than one, and it's always the human player who receives the results of the event.

Random Events

It can be done as random. I have done a few random events that will fire for any country holding a specific province for example.

The problem is that they will not fire EVERY time the trigger conditions are met....meeting the trigger conditions just means there is a chance the event *may* happen randomly.

That is still fine for quite a few event ideas, but not a substitute for being able to specify no country in a non-random event.

Yeah, but then the player (host in MP?) wil get the benefits rather than the country that actually got the monopoly.
