After years i started playing HOI3 again. This time with Black Ice. While playing Japan i found it quite confusing that china is so small. I found out that it's around 4 times smaler than it should be. I simly measured the distance from Peking to Hongkong which should be about 1950km ish, in game it is about half this distance. In europe on the other hand the distances are more accurate.

The problem isn't only a cosmetic one either. After all movement of land, naval and air units is heavily impacted by distance. For example is the range of planes in china to far and the land units should take about double the time to move from province to province in mainland.

Is there any map mod that uses an more accurate projection? Really good would be an authagraph map (see below). It's very accurate and can be connected at the edges endlesly. You would only need to tilt the camera view slowly with moving the camera position.

There isn't that I'm aware of. I thought it was a standard Mercator, but you should be able to mod the distances to reflect a more realistic situation.

Messing around with the map is one of the more challenging aspects of HoI3 modding and thus usually mods either don't touch the map at all or do only few cosmetic changes. There have been at least two attempts to "fix" the map as a whole but both died without accomplishing their goals.

I have no clue how to mod. Since the map consists of different layers with one particular layer being used by the game to count the pixels it should be possible to just stretch the maps equaly till the map is more accurate... i guess. I have to look into this.

It would be nice to know how the game works. For example if a map with a different resolution (wider or slimer than the original) or even rounded edges would be possible.
