I've always felt that, for a game about the medieval era, CK2 has always had a really sparse system for managing your castles.

Being that your castles will outlive your characters, it feels like this system should be quite in-depth. Right now it just feels like each castle just gives troops and money, but hasn't any sort of personality to them.

I'd love to see unique modifiers and effects to different castles/cities or anything of the like. There could be unique bonuses for distinct historical castles, as well as a whole list of ones that could happen as the game goes on, some major some minor ie one castle could become haunted which would have effects for the entire rest of the game, another castle could gain a reputation for having never been taken, a third castle is a traditional roosting area for a rare type of bird, etc. (I understand that there are county modifiers that do similar things, but I think having unique castles are more important than having unique counties.)

It would also be brilliant to have more management to the actual castles. Being that you will be managing a few of them at once, it can't be anything crazy, but there needs to be a possibility of specializing castles into different things if only to create a sense of ownership. (it would also be nice if these customizations were viewable on the map)

Really I just want my castles to feel like they are characters just as much as the dynasty I am playing, ya know?
 
I absolutely agree. The features that could be added to the palace great work feel sort of like how I think working on a castle should go.

Also can we please just keep our laboratory and observatory from generation to generation? Some of my castles must've been littered with the things.
 
I very much agree with the sentiment!

It would also be nice if the primary castle holding in your capital province had some unique bonuses, either passive or as buildable upgrades, such as Ducal/Royal/Imperial Court.
 
There could be help if there were different building materials. Like Stone, iron, gold marble. And ruler can chooce what materials to use they cost different ammount.

Annother idea would be each castle consist different sections like, throne room, dungeons, library tower, training yard and so on. And each section can be built up seperatley and also chooce building materials. Also in training yard you could chooce different upgrades do you use your room to use more sleeping places your man of arms. Or use that room to fill it up with more training space to have your man of arms with better quality.

I think materials make more sense for something like the palace Great Work than a castle, which in the medieval period was a fortification first and royal dwelling second. I like your other suggestions, though.
 
I'm always looking for tangible ways to leave an impact on the world I'm playing in. In truth, I think I'd rather see them as unlocking decisions and events moreso than bonuses to character attributes though.

Yes, kind of like how having the Royal Bedroom in the Palace great work would unlock the ability to have private conversations, or adding spikes to a great work would allow you to try to intimidate people.
 
All the management part of the game should be more detailed and complex. It is just a feeling, but I don't think we will get that in CK3...
