Hi.

I posted this to the eu4-subreddit yesterday, but was told I'd have a better chance of contacting the devs of this game here.

Some 1-year back I released a mod called the "More Shipnames Mod", that in total added well over 5000 ship-names to the game. They're all based on historical ship ledgers describing ships in active service during eu4's time period, with the exception of Norway's, Byzantium's and some other nations - who have historic names combined with fantasy ones. Unfortunately it could never be Ironman-compatible owing to the nature of the files used, which presented me with the tough choice between immersion and achievements.

I know this is subjective, but I feel it adds a ton to the game's immersion when you have most of the maritime powers of the game never resulting to generic names based on province names, or even worse, just following this structure "Light Ship XXXIII".

So this is basically me just offering up my resources to the paradox team in the hope that they could somehow incorporate it in the main game. It's a very non-intrusive addition to the game, and in no way alters any of the directions the dev team have decided to take eu4 in. I want no credit or anything, I'd just like to see the game's naval aspect fleshed out a bit more. As mentioned earlier, some of the nations added have fantasy names included, but they are specified in the mod's description, and can easily be removed to cater to historical accuracy. Alternatively I could make a new list at the request of the devs to sort any issues out, or they could simply remove and add as they see fit themselves.

The addition of more ship names is also quite fitting with the minor naval rework hinted at in the upcoming patch.

An important note is that many of the ships have rather archaic spellings, with notable examples such as the English "Holigost Spayne" (The Holy Ghost of Spain), but this is obviously something you'd be able to choose whether to include or not. Again, I want no credit for this, I'm just offering up my resources in the hopes that the dev team might be able to use some of it.

Please pm me if you have any questions, or request my email, so that we may continue a conversation there.

I just took out the medieval Norwegian ship-names that we have actual records of, so that you wont have to resort to fantasy names for that nation.
