Hello all,

Seems I have a bit of a problem keeping a MP game going over a LAN or the internet. Here's this...

Windows XP
AMD 2800 XP
Radeon 9800 Pro
1 gig mem
Audigy soundcard
1.01 patch on clean install

I have had a few crashes in SP and MP (par for the course with these Europa games) but this game seems to not want to work in MP. Using a 100Mbps LAN me and my roomie can play for about 2 months on any game speed with him or myself hosting and the game start to have latency issues, eventually the game is so out of sync the client can't even control his country, then usually an event goes down and we crash. Even when the game is working on the first day of play the other player lags so badly that armies must be selected many times before it sticks.

Well, I wanting to know if this is par for the course in MP games, and if not what could be wrong. We tried playing over the net (both ways) and the exact same thing happens. His rig is about as good as mine and he's playing SP fine as I type this. Will these guys ever ship a game that works MP-wise, or have they and I'm just not doing it right? Oh and before everyone explains how a LAN works or what ports need to be open, we've disabled the firewalls and have every port blown wide open. Oh and as far as the LAN goes it's working, we're geeky enough to know up from down. Please no pre-canned answers or directing us to the EUII boards, I've read all that and I own EU, EUII, HoI so I'm used to the poorly designed MP aspect involved, it's just this is much worse than any of them prior. Sorry for my first post having to be all complaints, but this is getting a bit out of hand and to be honest I'm considering giving up on Paradox. I know, I know, lazy American...

Thanks in advance,
Ellis

It's an add on for Panvision patch. I thought SF included it with their patch already but it shouldn't hurt to patch it again.

Hmm!
I don't know either, try it and let us know if it helps.

Well, to be honest the file sizes and dates were the same as what we had on our rigs after the 1.01 SF patch, and the results were the same, the game had latency issues pretty much right off the bat and we became desynced and crashed.

The game seems to lag when the host gets pop-ups and such, not even game stopping events, just regular pop-ups. Oh well, I guess we'll wait and play single player. Shame, this game has so much fun potential I wish they could iron out multi for Europa based games. Thanks for trying though, I appreciate the help.

Okay, let's move you to the MP forum, and let the folks there help you out.

From my experience, MP lags and crashes like no tommorow.

Here's to hoping this can be fixed.

Also: God help any fool that has autosave on in MP.

Main lag issue is known and is being worked on.

If you want to speed up the process then please, please record! the problems you are getting and save the game and raise them here or better still on the bugs forum.

If you have a LAN you have an ideal test facility to record and note errors. If you do this you have a very good chance that Johan can fix the problem quickly.

I might add that MP in EU2 works very well, indeed, extremely well. The process took a long time but it was because no one bothered to record, replicate the problems and get them in the bugs forum. Once that is done its often a very simple job to fix the issues.

Unless people record errors and send save game errors in then all the effort will be for SP problems. Right now the effort does need to be on SP problems but at the rate that the fixes are coming in then there is no reason why 1.02 couldnt be a great MP patch as well.

Ellis, sounds like you are in an ideal position to really help out. :)

I've noticed that the clients lag like mad when I have a battle screen up as the host.

Could be a coincidence (at least once I had a pop-up at the same time), but it's worth looking in to.

I've played multiplayer almost exclusively with this game, and it definitely has it's problems. The most annoying problem is that when I'm not hosting the game, some of the UI interface doesn't work - the "Increase Mobilization" button or the "Repay Loan" seem only to work very infrequently, which is obviously extremely annoying. We also suffer random and periodic CTD's, most often when one of us is at war.

There are definitely some problems with multiplayer.
