Hello Guys,
Been on this message board for months and months, reading and watching this game. Have been dealing with the bugs fine, love the new patch (1.02), however started trying to play Multi-player (MP) and have had a heck of a time getting it stable. Single player works great for me, never a crash etc etc, but when connecting to a buddy of mine via direct IP over the internet we consistantly get a latency warning, the game pauses, his game is listed with a number of "!!!!!!!" in front of it, and the game asks if I'd like to drop him and continue, save and quit, or resume. Resuming makes the game go on for me, but he's no longer able to do anything in it (and is frozen at the same date). Saving and quiting does just that, not a supprise there. If I manualy save the game, time starts up again for both of us, and I can hit "resume". We will run for around a day-game-time and then we get the warning again, paused, etc etc.

Game running at speed "below normal". Thing is once we ran for 6 months without this happening, many times we can run around 2 weeks and this happens. most of the time it's only a matter of a couple of game-days and it does this.

This is NOT related to the tactical-bombing theory that people complain on here crashes their games in MP. We have tried to run a game without using tactal bombing to see if it helped us...it does not. We have never crashed in MP, just this latency issue.

I'm running WinXP on wireless 1.3 mbps down/500 up. He's on Win98 on DSL 1 Mbsp down/500 up. Ping times are consistant at 90-110 ms between us. Taking 23 IP address hops to each other. We have completly uninstalled the game, deleted the install directory, and reinstalled with 1.02 patch clean, still having the issue.

What the heck is up? Other people seeing this happen a lot? Seems like we have the perfect setup for a 2 player MP game, yet with all these de-syncs we can't play a game for more then 5 mins at a time. Very frustrating. Let me know if you need any more information from me, but in general seems that issues are not a result of anything in particular we are doing with any units...

Thanks!

Yes, started many new games at this point. That's a dead end.

Have NOT tried playing with someone else, but been hunting any issues down that would be causing issues with this guy and me playing. Can't see how this is not some bug with the MP part of the game over some issue with our very stable and BB connections to the internet.

Any other ideas?

Right, obiously however we are having some sort of problem not related to confguration of our networks...are you running DHCP? I'm on a static address...

I will be testing a little bit on my internal lan to see if it will play properly internal, then maybe map the IP addresses external to my lan...but offhand I'd be willing to bet there is some sort of problem with how the game handles biref latency, and it is not tolerant enough to recover after it happens...

Anyone else at all seeing this latency error message pop up on a MP game at all? Would be nice to know if at least other people are seeing it...

To update...

Worked with my friend a number of times trying to replicate this error. Was able to somewhat consistantly as soon as we used planes (moving, attacking, anything). Always seemed to be him causing it (I host, he connects). So I retract my previous statment that planes don't seem to be the problem...they do. Lets say every 10th or 20th time planes are "messed with" in any way (bombing, rebasing, etc etc), the game seems to hit this latency warning for me (host side) reporting that the connecting party is lagging. Planes used were everything from fighters to tacs to torp. bombers.

Most sure it's a bug!

What else do you need from me on this. Would be nice to be able to play this great game MP!!!

Thanks...

Yes, offhand I'd say the plane CTS and this issue are related bugs...but I don't understand why more of you are not seeing the issue (assumeing if someone saw the issue, they'd reply to this post so that the developers know it IS an issue). Seems whenever we use planes, we have the lag window pop up... but without touching them at all I think we have seen the problem even when not messing with them at all (grant it the computer still is using theirs....)

Try playing an experimental game in which you see how stable it is with a zero touch policy on aircraft. I have heard from more than one person that when aircraft are not touched at all the game seems stable.

I personally think, from what Ive heard, it is a simple bug. I hope Paradox tackles it right away. Unfortunately, their history with patching MP bugs is spotty.

Try loading a MP save in single player, I hear it is still unstable.

hehe

blah its useless to play this game on anything but a 100mbit lan, as was EU 2..forget about any stable play, or atleast you gotta ban the use of airplanes as they will seriously destabilize your game.
We on our LAN had to banish repeat bombing as it just crashed the game.

Until paradox gets some better networkin code it will remain single player for all people without lan access..but for those with, it can be a blast

Yes we are aware of latency in the online connection engine in general, and later patches will be fixing this as we go along!
