Let's get straight to the problem. Yesterday me and my friend started a new game: he was a host and I joined the game - everythig was fine and we played several hours without issues. Today, we decided to continue our game but failed. Here are the options we tried and results:
1) Whenever my friend is the host and loads a save, I get "connection failed" error
2) Once I was the host and he managed to connect quickly, however save transfer took around 25-30 minutes and then the game desync (his game date lagged for about 7 days)
3) Now the most interesting part: when he was a host and started a new game (instead of loading a save) - I managed to connect and everything was fine.
We both have steam versions of the game with all DLCs and the same mods (actually, we've tried to turn them off - the results were the same).
So, why can I connect to host with a new game but not with a loaded save?
