Since HOI uses the same system as EU2, this advice should still apply. Let me know how it works out. You may also want to take a look through the EU2 MP forum for more tips until the HOI MP forum gets up and running a little more.

17) I have a firewall will this stop me playing? It can cause problems due to the nature of the MP system that paradox use. They couldnt afford a license for more a more expensive software package so the result is that it can't penetrate some firewalls. JohnMk is the resident expert on this. Also if your having troubles with a firewall, Mauzzer says to do this:
"Ive asked this before in the forum but have found out, if you have a firewall which you control, open up ports 47624 and 23000-24000 and redirect them to your lan-ip. It works fine for me now=] "

Thanks

Castellon,
I was able to play multiplayer last night without any configuration changes to my firewall.
I have loads of ports already open for other games so this might not be the norm. (I've never played EUI/II)
I'll disable them all the next time I play multiplayer and see if your info works and let you know the results.
Cheers

:)

Havin problems

i got a local network at home and a DSL connection and it seems that ma comp don't find the IP to a MP game in HoI.

is there anything u can trun on so the computer searches on the internet instead on the LAN for the IP?

this thread seemed good for this kind of question..

or i could make a new one:D

This game seriously needs 1000+ ports? I find that hard to believe.

Any hard answers on what is REALLY required? I think your solution must be overkill. Redirecting that much is beginning to marginalize the idea of 'firewall'...

By the way, in this day and age of computer gaming (and the HUGE number of people with firewall/NAT boxes at home) it seems pretty backward to require special ports being opened as opposed to negotiating this via the NATted/mapped ports automagically (like MOST games do these days..).

I thought the days of mucking with ports/redirection were over.

*sigh*

Just some general advice, I found I had lots of problems playing LAN games until I got a Router, You may want to try that, They are pretty cheap now and it will also allow you to share broad band internet access with all the computers in your network.

Well, I opened my firewall wide open (23000-24000, +47624 didn't do it.) Are you sure it isn't supposed to be 2300-2400?

I should take a log of, and post the ports actually used by the game, or a reasonable range of ports anyway.

i have a Router.. but the thing is when I wanna play on the net and search for the IP. It doesn't finds it. i think the game is lookin for the IP on the LAN. so ma question was if anyone know how to configure it so it looks for the IP on the internet instead of the LAN

That would be helpful for your fellow gamers.

I seem to be having the same problem.
Up until a couple of days ago I was connecting fine to Val net.
Now I can not and I keep getting the message to make sure I'm connected to the internet.

I'm also using zone alarm and have opened up the (23,000-24,000) ports.......no effect. I have even turned off all firewalls and I still can't connect.

Is Val net down?
Or what the heck is going on?

i noticed that i have several possibilities to manage ports in my router/firewall configuration.

i can setup "virtual servers" that redirect or simulate open ports to a computer in the LAN. (i can setup "service port" and "server IP")

then, in the "special applications" i can enable incoming ports if i define the "trigger ports".

(this is the US robotics router)

Do i now have to setup virtual servers for ALL the ports between 23000-24000??? or is it enough to enable them as incoming ports in the special applications menu. If so, which port is the triggering one? (this should be the outbound port of HoI, or just the one that gets active when connecting to Valkyrie net.)

hope you can help me (and all the other US robotics router user)
